Made it home!

We made it home safely to Alabama! It still hasnt sunk in yet that we're here for good and never have to leave again if we don't want to. We've been going going going since Friday and I'm exhausted. And still more to come! No rest for the weary. Mom took some pics of our adventure and I'll post those later. But for now...Getting to know you!!

1. If could star in any movie genre...what would it be..romance, comedy, horror, suspense or action? I'd have to say action. I'd love to pay this B.A. Angelina Jolie type character.

2. Do you recycle? In a word? No.

3. Have you ever been to a strip club? No and I dont have any intention of ever going to one.

4. Do you have a nickname? Not really. =( My husband used to call me Butterball.

5. What's a name you can't stand to be called? No one can pronounce my name right so I answer to just about anything close. The one I've never been able to understand is "Alisha". My name is Alyssa. How could you get one from the other?

6. What are your summer staples? Tanks! I love to wear tank tops!!

7. What was the last thing you bought for yourself? Some clothes from AE with my employee discount that I dont have anymore since I'm no longer an employee. =(

8. Are you happy with your boob size? Sometimes. Sometimes I'm ready to give them away when I cant wear cute little low cut shirts without looking like a hooker. But I must admit it makes me kinda smug when girls get implants to be my size. =)

T-2 days!!

My fam is on their way up here as we speak! We just got back from Chris' little going away ceremony on base. So sad. They gave him a neat plaque and a special .50 cal round. I cried of course. Embarrassing. Anyway, lots to look forward to but still lots to do! Everything is mostly packed. The theme for the day is CLEANING!! Yay!! Not.
Heres Fill In The Blank Friday!

1. One song that always takes me back to my youth is any Disney song! I still LOOOOVE Disney.

2. My first concert ever was Celine Dion on her Lets Talk About Love tour. OMG. Amazing. The woman can sing!

3. If I could create my dream music festival I'd want these bands to be there: Paramore, Flyleaf, Disturbed, Within temptation, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Evanescense, The Beach Boys, Ace of Base. Haha. Quite a combo.

4. The best makeout/"boot knocking" song ever is ....I honestly dont know. Maybe Celine's version of "The Frist Time Ever I saw Your Face".

5. The best concert I've ever been to was Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They know how to put on a show!!

6. A memorable musical moment for me was singing the National Anthem in public for the first time at a karate tournament. I had been sick the week before. It was flawless until my voice cracked on "and the rockets red GLARE". Lovely.

7. The song on my Ipod thats getting the most play these days is "Uprising" by Muse.

5 years...

...has come down to 5 days.
I've been very nostalgic the past couple of days whilst packing up our lives. I feel like it's taking me forever because everytime I find something I haven't seen in a while, I want to stop and look it over! Yesterday I found our wedding memory book that has all the details and guest signatures and omg, the box full of stuff that I sent him while he was deployed. The bed sheet/welcome home sign was there, DOZENS of cards, little stuffed animals, a custom made deployment countdown calender and best of all, a perscription bottle for lonliness I made him. I ate a whole jar of peanut butter (not in one sitting), cleaned it out, stripped off the label, made an Rx label and filled it will 100 memories, quotes, inside jokes and lyrics. The label told him to "take one a day as needed for lonliness and home sickness. DO NOT OVERDOSE. May cause you to crack a smile or miss me even more." =) I dumped the jar out and read every single one.

Today I packed his uniforms. Sooo many uniforms. I remember sleeping with his cammies when he was gone and taking pictures in his covers (like the one above) just to feel close to him. It's been a tough ride. But those two homecomings were worth it all. The FRIENDS we've made were worth it. The friends you make in the military are different than any other. Everyone is away from home so you quickly become each other's family. We wonder if we'll ever have friends as good as we've had here.

Don't get me wrong. I detest Jacksonville. But it's been our home for the last three years! Chris even longer! As much as I hate to admit it, I'm sure I'll miss it when we get home. One things for sure, we'll have some cool stories to tell our grandkids one day. ;)

ONE WEEK!!

We have ONE WEEK til we leave Jacksonville!! Three years has come down to one week. I have got to get my butt in gear and finish packing this mess of an apartment! I feel confident I can do it. Tomorrow is my last day at work and I've just got to MAKE myself get up early and KEEP packing til it's done. I think I can do it.
We got half of our TMO money in the back before the weekend. SO awesome. It's nice to have some cushion. Yesterday I bought some stuff for my hair. I'm an idiot when it comes to styling hair so I bought some simple things to make it lok cute. Some bobby pins, hair ties and two metallic head bands. Even I can't screw that up.
Welp! Heres GETTING TO KNOW YOU!
1. Men's chest...hairy or hairless?
Hairless please.
2. How often do you run red lights?
Never on purpose and not often at all. I'm the queen of running yellow lights though.
3. If you could raid any celebrity's closet...whose would you raid?
Hmm...as much as I hate to admit, maybe Hilary Duff. I don't like her but I think she has really cute style. Either her or Rachel Bilson
4. Would you rather have more followers/friends on facebook, twitter or your blog?
I'd say blog. Even though I have many many more on facebook.
5. What makes you feel sexy?
My husband makes me feel sexy! That and the cute little bra and panties I have from Forever 21.
6. I get excited when.....?
I have a vacation coming up. Like I do in JULY!!
7. Are you the "outdoorsy" type or the "indoorsy" type?
I love being outside. Taking walks, picnics, all that. But I don't think I'm "outdoorsy". I've never been camping or mudding or anything like that.
8. Would you rather have your dream home or a million dollars?
Give me the money!!

My Beautiful Kitties!

I took these pictures of our babies yesterday. The windowsill is one of their favorite places to be. They love to look outside and watch the birds. Oh how we love our kittehs!
Last night was fun. We went out to eat at the Marina Cafe for a friend's birthday dinner and then 5 of us went to Snug Harbor, this little hole in the wall karoke bar. Fun times to be had be all. It's not really a young, hip place. More of an older crowd. We're def. the youngest ones there. And you see some sights! We saw a woman dressed like a hooker and a man dressed like a woman!
Today it's beautiful outside and I might have to work, which I really don't mind since these next three days are my last. If I don't have to work today I'm going swimsuit shopping with a friend at VS. Excited!
Have a lovely rest of the weekend!
Love and transvestites,
Alyssa

2. Every night before bed I get on facebook and turn the TV to Fox News.

4. Something that makes me cringe is needles. I've just now gotten to the point where I can have my finger pricked or blood drawn without crying.

6. I like to collect Disney snowglobes and shot glasses from the places we visit.
7. Weekends are for relaxing and spending time outside or with loved ones, even though I work most weekends.

Procrastinators Unite!!

Super busy day today!
I got up at 5 and rode to base with Chris so he could check in and we could do our taxes. Yea, I know. I waited in the car while he checked in. I thought he taking a while and when he came back to the car he was FURIOUS. The douchebag GSGT made him do 150 push-ups because he had stuff to do other than PT when he's not supposed to be PTing anyway. Whatever. Just another reason we're getting out.
After the push-up BS we went to Dunkin and got me some coffee and bagel. I run on Dunkin.
Theeeen we did out taxes. Us and all the other lazy people were there lining up before 8. Finally got those done by a very nice Lcpl and then we went to the post office to mail them off. Right on time!
After taxes we went around on base running errands and doing some more for his check out process. It's almost like it's harder to get OUT of the Corps than to get IN!
After going around base, I took the car and went SHOPPING!

Heres my loot from AE:Really excited about this jacket:This necklace and the green tank top I'm wearing Saturday. Each Sat. we have a theme and this week is "military inspired". So I'm wearing this with khaki shorts.

After I did some damage at AE I went to Barnes and Noble and bought Bram Stoker's Dracula. I'm almost finished with Little Women and I want to start reading all the classics. I think after Dracula it will be Pride and Prejudice. The last thing we did tonight was eat at Texas Roadhouse with some friends. Yummy! Sooo...needless to say I'm stuffed and happy. And off to bed!

Love and margaritas,
Alyssa

April 15th, 1912

I know it's super early to be blogging....but I realized last night before I went to bed that today marks 98 years ago that the Titanic sank with over 1,500 men, women and children lost.
For those that don't know me real well, I have been OBSESSED with this event since I was a kid and first saw the movie. It only being a couple years away from it's 100 year anniversary is a big deal to me!
If I hadn't already packed all of our DVDs I would watch the movie today and cry like it was the first time I saw it.

Up to my eyeballs in boxes...

...and this is what I found on top of it all today. Our pretty girl, Dixie, sitting on the mountain of belongings like the queen she is. You see what she looks like. This is what she thinks she is:

I love watching her and Gus play. Today, Gus was playing in some packing paper, happy as a clown minding his own and I saw Dixie watching him from the doorway. She went into total stealth mode. Her eyes got wide and she stooped down til her belly almost touched the ground and she crept up on him inch by inch. Poor Gus was oblivious. Never saw it coming. It was like watching Big Cat Diary...just with little cats.

Well the packing is going well. Slowly but surely! I can't believe it's only 12 days away. We'll never have to worry about deployments, formations, checking out before we go somewhere, deployments (did I already mention that?)

And when we're home we'll never have to miss another holiday, birthday party or football game. It's gonna be great!!!

Love and tigers,

Alyssa

Getting to Know You

1. What color do you wear the most? That would be blue. Most of my closet is blue.

2. Would you rather have 10,000 dollars or a dream vacation? Right now, gimme the cash. I gots bills to pay.

3. Do you have a weird, quirky, or unusual habit? It might not be that unusual, but I pick and bite at my cuticals ALL THE TIME. My nails look horrible.

4. I really need to start...exercising. But I know I won't.

5. What was the first blog you ever read? I think it was DIRTY HAIR HALO.

6. Do you collect anything? My husband started me a collection of Disney snowglobes when he was deployed. Havent got a new one since Christmas before last, but together we collect shot glasses from places we visit.

7. How old were you when you had your first kiss? It was 2 weeks before my 14th birthday. And boy was it awkward.

8. Do you text/twiiter while driving? NO. Stopped at a red, maybe. The second it turns green the phone gets thrown in the passenger seat. Whatever you're texting or tweeting is not THAT important.
Well that was fun. If you want to play along go to mannland5.com!
Last night I was home alone so I got a lot done. I was packing clothes that are going into storage, cleaning out my closet, posting unwanted clothes on Lejeune Yard Sale and doing laundry.
It was a fun night. =)
I'm slightly freaking out because we've yet to do our taxes. Ugh. I hate being a procrastinator.
We'll do them tomorrow.
Who do you trust to do your taxes?

Something Sweet

Welp, yesterday was defiantely better than Thursday.
Me and the husband went for an inpromptu dinner to Outback. I had the most delicious tenderloin and crab stuffed shrimp. OMG. Sooo good. I had been saying I wanted to go to WalMart after to get some packing tape and bubble wrap so I wouldnt have to get up and go today. He "didn't feel like it". I begged and begged and he kept saying no. After enough pleading, he said that if I ate 6 chunks of raw purple onion that was left over from my salad that he would take me. I'd never had a raw onion before. So I took a bite. For one second it was "wow. these are kinda sweet. not bad." Then it became "omg these are spicy! Why are they spicy?!" I HATE spice of any kind. So off to WalMart we went with my being the victor...I guess. When I went to bed over 4 hours later, I could still taste the nasty things.
After WalMart we went home and ordered the movie Up OnDemand. CUTE movie! If you haven't seen it, you should! So sweet and funny.
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Heres some "food for thought"!
I have been eating at least two of these a day for the past week:

Fill In the Blank Friday!

Today totally doesn't feel like Friday. But hopefully I'll have a better day than yesterday!
If you want to play Fill in the Blank Friday go over and see Lauren at: http://thelittlethingswedo.blogspot.com
1. The strangest thing I've ever eaten was a raw oyster at Sea N' Suds in Gulf Shores. Never again.
2. My best friend is the husband. Simple answer.
3. If I could live in a different era it would be either the 50's or the pre-civil war Old South because of the fashion! I love the dress and the family values of the 1950's and I love the prim properness of the Old South. Not to mention the fabulous dresses ala Scarlett OHara.
4. I like how cuddly my kitties are in the morning after I wake up.
5. If you only know one thing about me it should be that when I love, I love with all my heart and I'll always be fiercely loyal to you.
6. My favorite book of all time is the Twilight Saga. It's hard to pick just one becuase I love to read! But I also love Echoes, Granny Dan, Crossings, and Mirror Image. All by Danielle Steel. I could read all of these over and over again.
7. The one beauty product I couldn't live without is foundation. I dont like my skin tone without some cover-up. Either that or mascara.
8. Blogging is something fun to do that inspires me and gives me an outlet. I love looking at random blogs about fashion and design.
9. If I could star in a movie with an actor/actress, I would want to work with Leonardo Dicaprio. The sun rose and set with him when I was younger.
10. One of the best feelings in the world is spending a day with Chris doing nothing but goofing off.

I hate Jacksonville

This is how I'm feeling right now. Totally overwhelmed. I started packing our closet today. All my stuffed animals (yes, I still have some), hats and purses. Theeen I ran out of boxes. =)

We've had a day, let me tell you. I tried calling Chris today when he went on chow and he wouldn't answer. He called me from his work line a little later saying that his phone was stolen. Awesome.
I sent a less than friendly text message to the theif telling him that Chris was headed to NCIS to file a report. At the end of the day Chris discovered that the phone had miraculously transported itself to some random spot. Odd. I like to think it was my threat that did the trick.
THEN, right before Chris gets home I'm starving and decide to make me some ramen noodles (beef is my favorite). I got to boil the water only to find out....I forgot the water bill and it's been shut off.
Fantastic.
I call and pay the balance (or what I thought was the balance) on the automated system. THEN I call to make sure a work order was put in to have the water turned back on. Turns out I didn't pay the reconnection fee. The girl tells me to pay it through the system and then call her back so she can schedule to have it turned on. I pay AGAIN and then try to call her back. THis is at 5:00. They're closed. The little idiot knew she was about to walk out the door and didn't bother to tell me. So no water for us tonight. I had to brush my teeth with a jug of water that's been in the car all day.
Today has just been one of those days where I'm cursing this town and all the people in it. I know it's childish but I just want to piss and moan. Just 16 more days here. It seems like it was last week when the countdown read "109 days". Crazy.

Our Easter!

Bonjour!
I hope everyone had a beautiful Easter because it was def. that on the east coast! Me and the husband got up Sunday morning and made our way to Myrtle Beach for the day after a pit stop at Dunkin Donuts. It didnt take us long to get there. Just at 2 hours. The first place we saw was Alligator Adventure. Great place! Lots of fun and lots to see. Gators EVERYWHERE. Well over 1,000 in the entire park.

Feeding time! This part was pretty cool.

After Alligator Adventure we went to find the Ripley's Aquarium. Next to it were what looked like a few little shops. Chris said "Before we go in, lets see whats over there." Just behind the aquarium was something called Heros Harbor Boardwalk on the Beach. IT WAS HUGE! It was a massive boardwalk with dozens upon dozens of shops, restaurants and little activities. You could feed the ducks, ride some amusement park rides, "walk on water" in these balloons, paddles boat. It was amazing. We could have spent the whole day there and been happy.
This is the restaurant we ate dinner at, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. It was so fun!

Best shop ever!! All things cats!
This is only a small portion of the boardwalk pictured. It was the most gorgeous day. Just perfect.
Of course, of all the hundreds of people on the board walk I had to ask the one white woman that didnt speak english to take our picture.

At my favorite place. The Ripley's Aquarium.

Part of the boardwalk at night. We road two of these and it really took us back. We used to go to Visionland (a little theme park close to home) all the time when we were in high school. My favorite ride to go on with Chris was the himilaya. It basically just spins around really fast. It was my favorite because you had no choice but to be squished close to the person you're riding with.

The aquarium at night was so pretty!
We had such a fun time together. Everything was perfect. It was probably the last trip we'll be taking alone together in a while since we're moving back home at the end of the month. I'm turning in my two week notice at work tomorrow. I can't believe it's already here. It's real. It's happening. We're moving home. It's bittersweet. On one hand I've been wanting NOTHING but to go home for the past 3 years. We're going to be with our familiy and everyone we know and we're going to be out of the Marine Corps and just be NORMAL. But on the other hand we're going to be starting completely over from scratch. We've been married 3 years this month and we'll be living with my parents. Chris will be looking for a job. We'll be saving to buy a house. It's like the past 3 years will be erased. I'm so excited to go home but scared at the same time. I know everything will work out....eventually.
