Didnt see that coming...

Last night Eclipse premiered and the day didn't quite turn out as I expected...
For the past week I'd been feeling really weird. Dizziness, bad headaches, and extreme exhaustion. I left work early yesterday to go the doctor and had Kaylen go with me. I tell them all my symptoms and they put me through the ringer. I hate doctors offices. I hate needles and I hate blood. Of course they have to take blood and the nurse said "probably a lot of it". Great. Kaylen was right beside me the whole time stroking my hair while I whimpered. I'm such a wuss. She gets the blood and leaves one of those plastic things in my arm in case she needs more later. They had me pee in a cup, do an EKG, and swabbed up my nose (this was new and it tickled). So me and Kaylen watch Paula Dean until they come back with some results. The nurse comes in and says "well...you're not pregnant, which I really thought you would be. You have the flu. A case of H1N1".
Hold the phone.
"That's swine flu right?"
"Yep."
"Didn't see that coming."
I have the pig flu. What are the freakin odds? So at this point I'm thinking, I'm about to go to a midnight premiere of a movie and I can hardly hold my head up. So me and Kaylen alter our plans. We take dinner home instead of going out. McAllister's. Yum. Potato soup is such a comfort food. We left the house a little before 9 to go to Target and get Starbucks and snacks for the theater. Wouldn't you know it, Starbucks had just closed. Of course. So we settle for Mt. Dews, skittles and slim jims. We were one of the first ones in line and waited on the floor for two hours. We played cards, read a tabloid and I eventually took a little nappy in Kaylen's lap. She's a good sister.
The movie was worth it all. It was amazing. All that I hoped it would be and MORE. So many new characters. The mood of this installment is so different and more intense that the last two. More action, more Cullens, more wolf pack. Less Edward and Bella time which is great. Because let's face it, their scenes are sometimes painful to watch. A lot more JACOB time!!! Love it! In one scene Edward says referring to Jacob "doesn't he own a shirt?" and the woman behind us goes "God I hope not!" I got so into it I even clapped during the final scene when the villain is defeated. I couldn't help but fall in love with Riley!! Such a cutie! Dakota Fanning and the Volturi were amazing in their short screen time.
I dreamed of vampires ALL night last night. If you've seen the first two (especially Twilight) and have low expectations for this one, I don't blame you. The first was an abomination. But this one is MILES better than the first two combined. I can't wait to see it again!!
I'm armed for the next two days off from work with a Dear John the book, my trusty laptop and the TV remote. And I'd also like to apologize to anyone in the movie theater I might have infected.
Love and good looking werewolves,
Alyssa

Tuesdays with Alyssa

Morning, all! I'm so ready for the workday to be over! Tonight is Eclipse date with my little sister! We're going out to eat, to grab some much needed Starbucks and then to sit in line with all the little emo kids! So excited! Anyway, here's some randomness:
I really want some shorts like this: I MUST have a big, floppy sun hat like this before we go to the beach next month:
Even though she's a skank and I boycotted her after her "lets wipe out all of the redneck, bible thumping, hillbilly middle america" comment...I love her fearless style. I think I'll remake this outfit.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!! Only four more days til the weekend!

ATL Weekend

This weekend for our 8Th "dating" anniversary, Chris and I went to Atlanta to catch two Braves games. We got some cheap tickets so we thought what the heck. I left work early Friday and we went to a 7:30 game that night. I was surprised at how hot it was for being that late!! Our seats were facing the sun of course.

Showing off my new sun visor. I had to have it!
Our boy, Chipper! Chris grew his goatee because of this man.
The second day we had some time to kill before the afternoon game so we went to a mall. This mall was unlike any mall I'd ever been to. Nothing but designer stuff. Betsy Johnson, Nicole Miller, Neiman Marcus, Cartier for crying out loud! I couldn't afford ANYTHING! But we had a nice lunch at California Pizza kitchen and taramisui (sp?) for dessert. The 4:30 was even hotter. And again, seats right in the sun the entire time. I drank at the very least 4 bottles of water during that game. And that water is not cheap either. Even though it was hotter than Satan's armpit we had a really great time together. He took very good care of me considering the last time we were at Turner Field I passed out from the heat and had to be treated by medics. So embarrassing.
Eclipse tomorrow night with my little sis!! I'm so excited!!! TEAM JABOB, yall!!!
Love and baseball players,
Alyssa

Kindred Connection-Movie Edition

Play along!

Windy Poplars

1. What was your favorite movie as a child? Oh gosh. The Little Mermaid and The Wizard of Oz. I also went through a Lion King and Pocahontas phase.

2. If you could live in any movie as your fictional world, which one would it be? The first thing that comes to mind is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Especially the room where everything is edible. I'm a fatty at heart.

3. Have you ever seen a midnight showing or hosted a movie release party? Tell us about it! I saw BOTH Twilight movies at midnight and I'll be seeing Eclipse at midnight as well!! The first two were chaotic. DOZENS of teenage girls and emo scene kids.

4. What movie release are you most looking forward to this year? Eclipse of course! I'm an unashamed twilighter. But I'm also looking forward to Pirates 4 next year.

5. Are you a theater goer, renter or wait-and-buyer? Theater goer and renter. I hardly ever just buy movies.

It's Wednesday! Two more days til Atlanta! I'm so excited for a weekend with the husband.

Last night me and my family went to a viewing (or a wake as some people call it) for a distant relative. Me and Kaylen were getting ready together and I kept telling her "no bright colors, no flashy jewelry, dont show your shoulder, ect.." I was shocked at how lax fineral dress has become. There were girls in short skirts, bright pink, spaghetti straps and guys in cargo shorts. And here I was worried that my leopard print flats were too much with my mid-calf length black dress!

Lovely Randomness

I want some of this!!! My hair is naturally wavy (but mostly frizzy) and I've been too lazy lately to dry it straight. I've heard wonderful things about this product for straight AND curly hair. I'd love to try it!!
I would LOVE to have this print. How can you not wake up happy if you have this on the wall next to your bed?

I fell in love with this dress in the Delia's catalog. So sweet and summery. And what's more is now it's on sale! Yay for me!Me and my husband both want one of these dogs. A little lassie! He'll let someone know if you ever fall in the bathtub. (Thank you, for those of you that got that.)

They just don't make them like this anymore....Hitchcock beauty Kim Novak.

And I present to you...the perfect woman. Jennifer Anniston. That skin. That hair. Those legs! She seems so classy and down to earth and humble unlike most of Hollywood. If I could pick one celebrity to be friends with (no pun intended) I'd pick her.

And it's still Father's Day so a quote perfect mine:

Right now, we're getting ready to go the fire station and have burgers and homemade ice cream with Daddy and David, who is himself a father-to-be. His wife, Tracie's shower was yesterday. That baby (Tristan) will never want for clothes and he already has a Coach diaper bag. True Tracie fashion! I can't wait to meet him in a couple of months!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful day and has a great week!
Love and curlz,
-Alyssa

Dad's Day!!

Happy Fathers Day to the greatest dad ever!!

Even when I was a baby I loved my Daddy. And now I appreciate him even more. He has always worked hard to give me and my sister not only everything we need, but everything we want. He's a wonderful and supportive husband and father. My mom is still crazy about him! He's funny, honest, hardworking and loving. I think it's safe to say that everyone that knows him, likes him and respects him. Happy Fathers Day, daddy!

We had to celebrate last night since he's working today. We went to Sumo and had a blast. Love the food and the chef was really funny. Then we came home and gave him his gifts. We got him a fishing pole and all the stuff for his tackle box. My favorite thing was the card I go him. On the font it says "Aren't you glad I'm all grown up and you don't have to worry about me anymore?" When you open it the card laughs hysterically and it reads "What's so funny?" HeeHee. I thought it was appropriate. Chris even got a card from the kitties. It said "I didn't wrap your father's day gift...but I did leave it in a nice box." HAHAHA!

Happy Fathers Day to all the daddies!

Getting to Know You!

2. Road trips or plane trips? Road trips!! Getting there is half the fun!!

3. I can't stand it when...people have no table manners. Don't talk with your mouth full, stop being so loud, and take your frickin hat off.

4. Have you ever gone topless at the beach? Noooo!! Never would!

5. How many blog carnivals do you do a week? Two most of the time.

6. My favorite thing about the weekend is...getting to wake up early just to do NOTHING!! Like right now!

7. Pancakes or waffles? Oh yum. Pancakes for sure. With LOTS of syrup.

8. Water park or amusement park? Since I don't really like water...amusement park.

Kindred Connections at Windy Poplars

Windy Poplars is a blog that I recently started following. Every week she does a Kindred Connections post where readers can answer the questions and link up to her blog so bloggers that have stuff in common can get connected! Hence "kindred connections"! This week is about furbabies so you know I had to participate!

Windy Poplars

1.What pets currently reside at your house?
That would be Gus and Dixie. Our sweet kitties.

2. What is one really strange thing your pet does?
Gus howls. It's the weirdest thing.

3. Give us your nicknames for your pets:
HeeHee. Gus' full name is Gustifson Garfield Whitt. Dixie doesn't have a full name but we call her Pretty Girl and Gus is Sweet Boy.

4. Are you pets spoiled or not?
They're totally spoiled. At our home in NC they'd sleep with us and they basically had free reign of the apartment.

5. Insert pet pics here!:
This is Dixie...

...and her brother Gus. Pictures taken by Yours truly. ;)

I'm so happy tomorrow is Friday! It seems like every weekend since we've been home has been busy! This weekend we have a baby shower for our good friend Tracie and Sunday is Father's Day. NEXT weekend me and the husband are taking a little weekend trip to Atlanta to catch a Braves game. That weekend will also mark 8 years together. I can't believe it's been that long!

Me and Kaylen are watching Food Challenge all about cupcakes and my mouth is practically watering!

Love and fur,

Alyssa

GTKY

Busy day today! This morning Chris and I are going to church with my family, lunch at McAllisters, a 50Th anniversary party and then a 1st birthday party. Yea! Busy day! But it's whatev. I feel re energized after my weekly shopping trip with Kaylen yesterday. I got some new sunglasses from AE since sadly someone sat on mine, my first bra from Aerie (I love that they tie your bag with a bow when you check out) and some platform, sexy black shoes to go with polka dot dress I got last week. Can't wait to wear them but I already know it's going to be dangerous. ALL I wear is FLATS. Everyday of the week. So six inch heels is going to be interesting. Especially since my middle name isn't "Grace".
On to Getting to Know You! Play along at mannland5.blogspot.com.
1. If you could have one of Superman's powers, which one would you want?
I don't know if this is one of Superman's but I'd love to be invisible sometimes. And I don't mean that in an emo way. I'd really like to be a fly on the wall at times!
2. The best thing I ever won is...
$25 on a gas station lotto ticket. =) Luck of the Irish.
3. Have you ever skped with a bloggy friend?
No. The only person I've ever skyped with is my Mama when I lived in NC.
4. What is your favorite summer month?
It's more spring than summer, but May. It's not sooo freaking hot.
5. Pool, lake or ocean?
Pool. Water makes me nervous. With a lake or an ocean you're not the biggest thing in there!
6. One of my favorite summer memories is...
All of my family's trips to Gulf Shores. This might be out last year to really enjoy it for a while. =(
7. What's your favorite secret bargain?
It's no secret. I'm addicting to Forever 21. They have THE cutest clothes for cheap cheap cheap.
8. Do you plan on or have you been watching the World Cup?
Not at all.
Enjoy your Sunday!
Love and heels,
Alyssa

Letters to Me: Part Dos

Alyssa,
You're probably going to snap an ankle
tomorrow when you wear me. You know
you're highly uncoordinated.
Love,
Your new 6 inch heels.
Alyssa,
I know you want to give up on me,
but you've come so far!! Just a couple more chapters
to go and then you can start something new!
Sincerely,
Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Alyssa,
Are you ever going to finish me?
Waiting for you,
the unfinished puzzle on the table.
Mom,
Thanks for letting us in the house when
Grandpa's not home. But we miss cuddling
with you at bed time.
Love,
Gus and Dixie.
PS. Throw some more catnip on the scratch
post when you get a chance.

Day at the Lake

This past weekend we spent Sunday afternoon at the lake on my uncle's new boat. Keep in mind I'm terrified of water. I can swim just enough to keep my head afloat and water just makes me super nervous. And my dad can't swim a lick so that makes me extremely anxious. But it was fun none the less! They're redoing their new lake house which will be gorgeous when it's finished. They'll have a lake front balcony off their bedroom which I would die to have. I could picture myself sitting out there reading for hours. The boat is what they call a pontoon boat. I had never been on one before. It doesn't go terribly fast, which I liked. Just enough to give you a nice breeze. Anyway, here's some pics from our day!

Cuddling with Chris after I had gotten more comfortable.

Me holding onto my life vest.
Me and my increasingly beautiful sister.
Me and the hubs in our shades.

Titanic is my favorite movie. =)

Outfit details: Shirt: Forever 21. Shorts: Wet Seal. Hat: Claire's. Necklace: Forever 21

And let me just add Happy Birthday to the best mother in the world!!

My Marine

Today is a very important day in our lives. Chris' EAS date was yesterday so as of today he is a "former Marine". A veteran. Five years ago it seemed that June 5th, 2010 would never come. And now it's come and gone and we're starting over. I'm so proud of him and all he's done. In five years he became a Marine, became an Intel analyst and did two tours of duty in Iraq. He's worked so hard and we've been through so much. It's been a total rollercoaster but we've both come out stronger people for it, not mention closer as husband and wife. My heart bursts with pride when I think of the stories we'll be able to tell our kids one day and how he's been a part of history and something bigger than himself. I love him more than words can say and he'll always be "my Marine."

Sunday Morning Quiet

I love waking up early just to do NOTHING. It's quiet and peaceful. This coming from a girl who used to regularly wake up at noon. Well no more!! I'm an early bird now! Now if I sleep til 9 I feel like I've wasted part of the day. Don't get me wrong, I love my sleep and I go to bed early. But I can sleep when I'm dead.
Here's getting to know you! Play along at mannland5.blogspot.com.
1. If a person has a booger in their nose, and you can see it, do you tell them?
If I know them pretty well, yes. I hope they'd do it for me!
2. What are you passionate about?
Animals. I love animals of all kinds and would love to be an animal cop or work with the SPCA or Humane Society.
3. How long have you been blogging?
Not too long. Only a few months.
4. What is your favorite summer drink?
Sweet tea of course!!
5. What is your favorite type of music?
Rock and pop. But I'll listen to just about anything except rap.
6. Something I do before I go to bed is...
READ. I love to read. And it puts me to sleep.
7. My summer vacation plans are...
going to Gulf Shores for our first family vacation in 3 years at the beginning of July. Whether or not we'll actually be able to get in the ocean with the oil approaching is yet to be determined. That whole situation infuriates me.
8. My favorite must have, can't live without, beauty product is...
mascara!
Hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday!
Love,
Alyssa

A Sister Thing

So today was a fun day of shopping with my little sister, Kaylen. I say "little" but she's 16. I'll probably always call her that. We were going to go to the flea market but daddy said it wasn't in a safe enough part of town for us to go alone...so we settled for the mall. =) We went to American Eagle first where I took advantage of a BOGO sale. (Since I don't work there anymore I can't afford to shop full price!) We poked around some more and saved the best for last: Forever 21. Can I get an amen? I bought two REALLY cute dresses. This being the first:

The second one is ever cuter and I can't find a picture of it, which really irks me. It's pale pink with black polka dots, tight, short and looks like it was taken off the set of I Love Lucy. I have NO idea where I'm going to wear it and NO idea what shoes I'm going to wear it with...but it was too cute NOT to buy. Especially for only being 11 dollars.

After my Forever 21 adventure we headed for home and belted out some Journey in the car. And it's lame but it made me day when I checked facebook and her status was "shopping with sis =)" I think (and hope) that me and Kaylen will end up being best friends.

Love and polka dots,

Alyssa
