Fill in the Black Friday

Bonjour. =)
I'm so thankful it's Friday.
It's gotten to where it's just cooled off just enough outside to be comfortable wearing pants.  I tried on my jeans for the first time since summer started the other day.  Only one pair fit.  =(  Sad day.  I'm going to blame it on shrinkage.  So guess what I'm doing this weekend!  Another shopping adventure!  But no shopping on Saturday!  No no.  Saturday is now football day at the Whitt's.  Time to temporarily hide all the Auburn fans on facebook.
Have a good looong weekend and Roll Tide!

Link up with Lauren to play!
1.  Over this labor day weekend I will be     buying a new pair of jeans but other than that, hopefully relaxing with the hubs.   .

2.  With the political debates going on right now, my thoughts are   I haven't been paying attention enough this time around.    .

3.  Today    I am read to go home and see my little sister!  And let her paint my toes...

4. The best thing I've cooked recently was     a bangin' grilled cheese.

5. The last thing I bought was  a pair of nude heels .

6. The best movie I saw this summer was   The Dark Knight Rises.  Thought it really lived up to the hype.  Husband hated it .

7.  The best book I read this summer was   The Hunger Games trilogy no doubt.  Runner up is The Exorcist.

Kicks and Giggles

I don't know about yall, but this week has been really blah for me.  I haven't been in good moods.  To be quite honest, I've been down in the dumps.  Today at work I read a text message from Kaylen telling me to look up a video on youtube.  This video, the 2nd one on this page,  turned my entire day around.  It actually put me in a good mood!  It's only 30 seconds long, but sometimes that's all it takes!  So I present to you, three things that can make me laugh no matter where I'm at or what kind of mood I'm in.  I hope someone who's having a bad day happens to read this post and smile.  =)
And please, if you don't do anything else today, watch the 2nd video.  Funniest thing I've seen in a long time.  And turn the volume up!

Smile!

Dreaming of Fall

So here's what I'm thinking:
I would be happy to bleed my bank account to go to Gatlinburg tomorrow.
Get away from this heat and humidity and bask in this beautiful weather.  In my dreams it's a cool 62 degrees.  I'm wearing riding boots over skinny jeans, a tank top under a chunky cardigan and an infinity scarf.  My darling husband is wearing gray vans, straight leg jeans and a plaid button up (this part will never happen).  We're walking around town with nothing to do but shop, ride the chairlift over and over again and eat endless fudge samples.  Brunch is at Flapjacks and dinner is at Cherokee Grill.  At night we sit on the balcony overlooking the strip and watch the people go by.
Sounds good to me.

Where would you go?

Friday, I'm in Love!

After my incredibly depressing post last night and a cup of coffee this morning, I'm feeling better.  Arby's for lunch never hurts either.  And baby sister is coming home today!  So excited to see her!  We said when we see each other we're going to reenact the scene from Julie and Julia at the train station.  If you don't know what I'm talking about look it up.   I told her to be sure and bring our nail stuff home so she can paint my piggies for tomorrow.  Chris has plans elsewhere tonight so it's going to the four of us.  Dinner and shopping.  I still need shoes!  Hopefully this shopping trip goes smoother than the last.  I mean, how much could go wrong shopping for shoes?

On to Friday Fill Ins!  Link up with Lovely Lauren to play along.

1.  My favorite thing to do on Friday is     is go out to eat!  It's one of our favorite things to do together.  That or pizza!   .

2.   This Friday I am    Going shopping and getting dinner with Kaylen, Mom and Dad.  On the hunt for the perfect pair of heels for this wedding I've been going on and on about    .

3.  The best thing about a weekend is    that I don't have to work!  Duh!  .

4. Now that summer is almost over, I'm feeling      super anxious for fall to get here and cool us off.

5. The best thing I did this summer was   take a mega mini vacay with the husband to see a friend get married and celebrate our 10 year dating anniversary .

6. The thing I'm looking forward to about fall is   a tie between the clothes and the football.  Roll Tide .

7.  If I had to be stuck in one season for the rest of my life, I would choose   fall hands down.  Perfect weather and beautiful colors and smells!  Pumpkin spice, anyone?   .

Have a fabulous weekend!

Wearing Black

Hello lovies,
It's about 7:15 and I'd be perfectly happy to take my make-up off and go to bed.  I'm exhausted.  This week has been a weird one.  And a sad one.  I guess it caught up with me today.  As I told you, Saturday Chris' aunt died.  I had only met her once at our wedding five years ago and she and Chris hadn't spoken since then or a long time before then.  Sometime this past weekend a girl I graduated with (but was not friends with) died of cancer.  THEN on Monday I found out a guy I also graduated with and went to church with committed suicide.
The funeral for his aunt was today at the same cemetery that Maw was buried at three months ago.  I donned my good black dress and heels again.  Chris wore his suit (minus the tie and jacket this time; figured I'd give him a break).  The whole time the pastor was speaking I couldn't think of anything but Maw.  Zach too, but mostly Maw.  Chris' aunt was 51.  Relatively young to die of a heart attack.  The pastor said that this was a hard funeral to preach because of it.  He said that it's different from an older person losing their mind or losing to cancer.  Said that was "expected and natural".
I beg to differ.
Now this man I'm absolutely sure meant no harm in what he said.  But there's nothing natural about dying of cancer no matter how old you are.  It's slow and it's painful.  Painful to watch too.  People shouldn't die like that.  Especially people like her.
I didn't think it would be this hard.  I didn't think it would hurt this much.  I thought I had made peace with it.  I knew she was hurting and was ready to go whenever God called on her.  But there's still a little catch in my heart whenever I remember that she's not here anymore.  And there's no doubt in my mind that she could have lived to see 100 had she not gotten cancer.  The day before she died Kaylen was upset and told me that she always imagined her watching her graduate (a week later) and sitting on the front row at her wedding.  I told her I had always dreamed about getting to tell her I was pregnant and her holding my babies for the first time.  It kills me that our future babies will never know her.  I don't know.  It just hurts a lot more than I expected it to.  And part of me feels like I have no right to cry just because I got to have her in my life at all.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.  This is just what I've been thinking about.  I'm sure after wearing my new dress and a fun weekend I'll be in better spirits.  For now I'll watch Ingourious Basterds.  That usually makes me happy.  =)

but joy comes in the Morning."

[PS.  Completely random but it's bugging the crap out of me.  Is the correct possessive punctuation Chris' or Chris's.  One of my grammatically inclined friends help me out.]

10 on Tuesday

Hello again!   Link up to play along with darling Linny!

 1. Has anyone heard Taylor Swift's new song "We are Never Getting Back Together?  I love it just as much as I love her other songs.  Not at all.  It's awful and stupid.

2. I finally saw The Hunger Games and loved it!  The only thing I think they could have done better, was pick a more suitable Peeta.  Didn't care for him.  But I think Jennifer Lawrence was PERFECT as Katniss.

3. Dear friends, I finally found a dress!!  Woo hoo!  It's Lauren Conrad whom I adore and adore everything she puts on her body.  But here it is!

 4. And speaking of the new dress, I need new shoes now.  Any suggestions?  I can't decide if I want to go heels or an awesome pair of shiny flats.  What do you think?

5. We had a super busy weekend.  Moving Kaylen Friday, lunch and shopping Saturday and meeting with Chris' family Sunday since his dad's sister passed away.  This coming weekend we have a wedding Saturday (that the dress is for) and I'm seriously excited about it.  After that I'm thinking a movie and pizza day with the husband in order.  And staying in pajamas is a MUST.

6. Last Halloween I tried a bedazzled pumpkin for the first time.  I'm thinking of taking it up a notch this year.

7. I heard yesterday that Niki Minaj (if that's even how you spell the weirdo's name) is going to join Mariah Carey as a new judge on American Idol.  What a joke.  I really think American Idol should just say they had a good run after more than 10 years and call it quits.

8.   The same coworker (who has a weird sense of humor to match mine) that introduced me to Gangnam Style from last week's 10 on Tuesday, also showed me this gem:  Sexy Sax Man.  My favorite part is after 1:10.

9.  I just bought The Exorcist for my Nook.  The movie is my all-time favorite scary flick and I'm thrilled with the book so far.  But it's making me hesitate to shut my eyes at night.

10.  And lastly another dear coworker suggested the Disney Pandora station to me.  IN LOVE.  Can't stop listening to it.  It made my cry the first time I turned it on and it played "A Whole New World" from Aladdin.  That song was played at our wedding.  [Tear]
Anywho, saw this on Pinterest (of course) and thought it was neat.  Ariel's cover is my fave.

Sad Saturday and Fill-In-The-Blanks

Yesterday made for a long day getting Miss Kaylen moved into her dorm.  She shares a dorm room with 3 other girls, one has been a friend and fellow cheerleader through high school.  It's not as bad as it sounds.  There's a joint living room and kitchen, a bathroom for each pair and every girl has her room own little room.  And I do mean little.  She was (more than) slightly overwhelmed when we got there and the moving group got all of her stuff in.  I took charge and kicked the boys (her boy and mine) out of the room so we could get started.  We hung up clothes (she actually has decent closet space), put t-shirts and pants in the dresser and decided where everything would go.  Daddy set up her TV and mini fridge, Daniel hung stuff on the wall, Chris and Don Don put together a little storage  tower and Mama set up her printer.  We ate lunch at Baumhower's Wings, went to Wal-Mart to grocery shop for her, and it was MADHOUSE with all those kids there doing the same thing.  Then we went back to the room for a short while to finish up.  We said our goodbyes and left my baby sister in that huge place.  Ugh.  I hated it.  BUT I can't be too sad because if  I don't get to see her again this weekend, I'll definitely see her next weekend for that wedding.
Speaking of wedding I think I'm going to try shopping again today.  Hopefully this time goes better than the last.

Now before I get up and get going...here's Fill In the Blank Friday!

1. The best thing to do on a hot day is to stay the heck inside.  We here in Alabama JUST got out of the ridiculously hot and faded into the just plain hot  .

2. The best place to be on a hot day is    at a pool.  If you don't have a pool, INSIDE!

3. The best thing to eat on a hot day is    ice cream.  And drink sweet tea!

4. Hot days   make me miserable.  I have a very low tolerance for heat .

5. My go to uniform on a warm summer day is a pair of shorts and a colorful fitted tee.  Thank goodness I don't have to dress up for work.  That would be extra miserable .

6. The scent that reminds me of summer is   Yankee Candle beach scent.  Can't remember what it's called.  Maybe just "walk on the beach"  .

7. My favorite thing about summer is    the colorful clothes!  The pinks, limes and oranges all together!  .

Shopping FAIL

So shopping last night was a truly epic fail.  I wore comfortable clothes and shoes, carried a no-fuss purse and even wore good, nude underwear for trying things on.  I was ready to find the perfect dress for a nice wedding next weekend.
We (me, my sister, and our grandparents) were in the food court and all of a sudden we heard what sounded like an army of Apache helicopters flying over the building.  It was LOUD.  Kaylen thought the building was collapsing.  I heard kids start screaming and seriously thought it was a shooter.  I was two seconds from grabbing Kaylen and running to the nearest store to go out the back exit.  Yes, I was forming an exit strategy in my head.  Turns out they were doing some work in a department store that's been closed forever and it must have been a jack hammer.  I was edgy the rest of the night.
After the food court, Forever 21 was my first shop, naturally.  I found a navy, lace dress that was cute but I wasn't in LOVE with it.  So we moved on to Francesca's where I tried on three dresses, two of which being these:

With my "overflowing cups" this looked like a nice potato sack on me.

This one was Kaylen's favorite and emerald IS my color with my pale skin.  But to me the ruffles only serve to make me look even MORE top-heavy.  But if nothing else suffices I might have to go back for it.

In the middle of trying on one of the dresses, Kaylen pops in and hands me her smoothie to hold while she keeps looking.  I set it on the chair and forget about it.  Naturally I knock it over and the whole bottom of the dang cup pops off and half of her mango smoothie spills on the floor.  Thank GOODNESS it didn't get on any of the clothes.  I've got one hand palming the bottom of the cup and one hand on the end of the straw so no more gets spilled, all in only bra and panties mind you.  Kaylen is still bee-bopping around and FINALLY comes to the curtain and says "Alyssa, you wear a medium right?"  I whisper-scream "GET IN HERE NOW!!"  I very gingerly pass off the exploded cup and get dressed.  THEN have to suffer the embarrassment of having to tell the little sales girl that we've had a "little spill" and request paper towels.  No paper towels.  Of course.  Only toilet paper.  So I was on my hands and knee cleaning smoothie with TOILET PAPER.  Not easy.

Moving on.

We went to Lotus.  I picked up a shiny, hot pink wrap number.  Kaylen says "That's it.  That's going to the one."  In the dressing room, I put it over my head and something is wrong.  It barely goes over my top half but getting it over my hips is not happening.  Both of us combined can't figure out how this thing is supposed to go.  I give up and struggle to take it off and I can hear threads pulling and breaking as I'm taking it over my head.  We take a good look at it and Kaylen says "Alyssa, this is a romper."   I was trying to fit my entire body...into a leg hole.

After that we gave up and I went home empty handed.  Oh well.  Live today, fight tomorrow.  When we got to the house and Nana and Don Don were about to help us get stuff out of the car, Don Don asked if we could say a little prayer.  At the trunk of the car Don Don prayed a sweet prayer telling God how special we are to him and asking his protection and guidance on our lives as we grow.  It's things like that that I'll cherish forever.

Seeing that we are moving Kaylen to Tuscaloosa tomorrow, I'm so glad I got to spend some one-on-one time with her.  On the drive to the mall we were dancing in the back to LMFAO.  That's what I'm going to miss!  The weird little things that sisters do!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Mine will be bittersweet!

10 on Tuesday

Hello!
It felt like it was a couple of days ago that I did the last 10 on Tuesday post.  Oh well.  Link up with LINNY to play along!!

1. Saturday night we got together with our 2nd family at the fire station and David made his famous stroganoff.  We also got to hang out with our favorite little one, Tristan!  He's the one hanging upside down.  Haha.

2. To the little piece of crap from NobodyCares, Missouri that tried to hack my Facebook, choke on a donut.

3. I have watched Inglourious Basterds so many times the past week, I think I'm learning German.  I just can't stop watching it.  I love everything about it.  The music, the characters, all of their little mannerisms...  And I can't take my eyes off Christoph Waltz.  "That's a BINGO!"

4. My baby sister is moving to Tuscaloosa Friday and starts college at Alabama (Roll Tide) soon.  It's only 45-an hour away but still.  It's going to sad not having her around every day.

5. The husband and I tried watching Beastly last night.  Twenty minutes in and I asked if we could turn it off and just watch Beauty and the Beast.  It was truly terrible.  Bad writing, casting, acting...just bad all around.  And Vanessa Hudgen's voice is like nails on a chalk board.

6. We recently started watching Breaking Bad on Netflix.  At first I was hesitant to start another series but Chris talked me into.  As much as I hate hate hate admitting it, I'm glad he did.

7. Please enjoy the wildness that is...Gangnam Style.  Feel free to dance along.  =)

8. Halloween is just a couple of months away and I've been thinking about costumes: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo perhaps?

9. Decided I need this sweatshirt.  If you don't know the reference then that's a shame.

10.  It's August and I haven't been in a swim suit ONCE.  That's also a shame.

You have excellent taste.  Looking forward to

with us to step a little lighter?  He has heavy feet
on my hardwoods.

Shrooms

Morning, all!  Mornings are my favorite time to blog.  It's nice and quiet.  I'll be getting up shortly to go paint another room at our house.  It's starting to come together.  Slowly but surely.  I had a mini melt-down yesterday at work thinking about everything we still have left to do.  Thank goodness I have a supervisor that allows the occasional cry.
This week mushrooms have been everywhere!  And there was an entire mushroom colony in my grandmother's years next door.  Did you know they from incredibly fast?  Every time I came home for lunch or at the end of the day,  they looked different than the last time I saw them.  I told you I got the latest edition of Photoshop at work so I couldn't resist taking some pictures of said mushrooms and playing with them.

Graybaby, my nearly 20 year old cat, was not impressed.

Now please enjoy some Friday Fill-Ins.  Link up with Lauren to play!

1.  The age I will be on my upcoming birthday is   25.  A quarter of a frickin century  .

2.   The best birthday present ever would be    a surprise trip to Disneyworld   !

3.  My favorite birthday to date was    my 18th.  My mom threw a surprise party and my Marine proposed to me!  .

4. Birthdays make me feel     loved.  But also a little antsy.  Getting older kind of freaks me out .

5. The worst birthday I ever had was   my 23rd .

6. When I was born   I was 6 lbs and 12 ounces.  And my grandfather fainted.  And I was brought home on Christmas Eve in a stocking .

7.  So far my favorite age has been   19.  I got married and moved to NC and then my husband deployed.  I think I learned the most about myself at that age.  I still feel 19 in my head.  Sometimes I forget that was five years ago  .

10 on Tuesday

1. People really want to talk smack about Gabby Douglas's hair?  Let's see you do a standing back tuck on a 3 inch wide beam and land on your feet.  The girl is wicked talented, humble and so darn cute.

2. Here we are with Jo Koy!  My hair was already ravaged by the humidity at this point but I just couldn't NOT share this picture!

3. Speaking of hair.  I got photoshop CS6 at work last week and I've been playing around with it using youtube videos and what not.  Today I learned how to change hair colors.  Sooo I thought I'd see how I'd look as a full on redhead!  Whatcha think?

4. I bought Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter for my nook...about 4 weeks ago.  I just can't get into it. I was sooo wrapped up in The Hunger Games series.  But this book has disappointed me so far.  Maybe I'll just cut my losses and watch the movie.

5. And speaking of movie...I saw a movie poster for Paranormal Activity 4!!  I know, I know.  These movies have consistently scared the crap out of me.  Watching them is like being in a spook house waiting for something else to pop out at you!

6. We finished painting the master bedroom tonight!  It's still a little wet in the picture.  I wasn't sure at first but after the second coat I think I'm going to like it!  I don't know why but I'm stuck on purple right now.

7.  Dear people who work at Dunkin Donuts,
When I order a single donut, don't drop it in the paper bag frosting side down again or I'll have to gut you like a fish.
Thanks.

8. Have you ever tried that powder stuff for head aches?  Don't.  My dad gave me some today in the truck on the way to lunch.  I don't know what happened but as I was downing it...it kind of exploded in my face and white powder went everywhere.  And this junk is DISGUSTING.  I couldn't talk because I had a mouth full of powder and was about to vomit from the taste.  After a few minutes of downing Diet Pepsi, Daddy told me to wipe my face because I looked like I'd been snorting coke.

9. I wan to go to the beach sooo bad!  Even just for a weekend!  I haven't been this summer.  And those five minutes on the beach for that wedding doesn't count.

10.  This made me lol.

Final Thoughts on Friday

Just a few quick things:
-The husband and I just saw Jo Koy at the comedy club.  That dude is seriously funny.  And NICE!  We met him after the show and got a picture with him!  I love it when people turn out cool!
-I am OBSESSED with Song Pop.
-Fall can hurry up and get here.  This heat and humidity is doing nothing for my wavy hair.  Summer is for the birds.

And now....
Fil in the Blank Friday.
And I actually did it on a Friday!
Go me.

1.  I am proud of   how the husband and I saved money before we bought our house !

2.   This weekend I will    sleep late (that's about 7:30 for me), buy some new sandals to replace mine that are falling apart and eat at a new restaurant   .

3.  A secret dream I have is    to be a voice for a cartoon  .

4. I can't handle     storms.  I just can't .

5. The most annoying thing in the entire world is    loud eaters....and loud breathers.  I don't know which is worse .

6. The most relaxing thing in the entire world is    reading before bed.

7.  I think everyone should   accept that not everyone thinks the same.  It's ok to disagree but there's no point in fussing over it.  No one is changing anyone else's mind  .

White Dress

I don't know what I was watching yesterday that made me really think about my wedding dress.  Maybe it was pinterest.  Yea, it was probably pinterest.  I got married pretty young at 19 and what do most girls dream about?  Princess dress!!  And that's exactly what mine was.  I tried it on at the bridal shop and I had that angels-are-singing moment.  I fell in love with it.  But me being me, I can't make decisions so I kept shopping at different places.  With every dress I tried on I couldn't quit thinking about that one.  That's how I knew it was mine!  It was a classic ball gown.  And me being 5'3 it was BIG.  The top was strapless and covered in jewels in a kind of damask/diamond pattern.  The bottom was layers up on layers of lace and tulle.  It was everything I wanted.

NOW being 24 I wonder if I had waited to get married how different my dress would be.  Don't get me wrong, I'm SO glad I picked the one that I did.  It was me in dress form...at 19.  I like to think that five years later I've developed more of a personal style.  If I got married this weekend I imagine my dress would look something like one of these:

Super feminine.  Soft details.  Flowy.  Cap sleeves.
Again, don't know what made me want to analyze my wedding dress, but thanks for taking this little trip with me!
