"Darkness Falls Across the Land..."

Halloween is always the most fun day of work! This is the 3rd year we've dressed up and our group keeps getting bigger and bigger! I mean, who doesn't like to dress up for a day??
Two cowgirls, one Alice in Wonderland, one Queen of hearts, one witch, one farmer, a monster, a zombie bride, a murder victim, a devil, a vampire, and one Korean pop star.  Not a bad group.

Doing the Gangnam Style!

That cute little choker?  I guess I had it fastened too tight because I sneezed once and it broke.  Haha.

And I'm stoked for tonight because I'm finally getting to go to Sloss!  Just the husband and I.  I think I've checked everything off of my Halloween to-do list:
-watch The Exorcist
-listen to Halloween Party Pandora non-stop
-carve pumpkins with Tristan
-eat lots of candy
-find a cute, non slutty costume
Yep!
Why can't Halloween be twice a year???

Happy Haunting!

Ten on Tuesday - DWTS, Frankenstorm, and Mr. Chicken

 1. I was sorely disappointed there was no Halloween Night on DWTS.  Instead it was Country Night.  It was entertaining as always, but I was really looking forward to Halloween songs!  Last year's was my favorite episode by far!

2. I'm so thankful that at almost 25 years told I still have a mommy that babies me.  Friday when I was sick she came into work to get me like she was checking me out of elementary school.

3. My kitchen is getting closer to my dream turquoise kitchen everyday!  I can't wait to share pictures!

4 Tomorrow my team at work is dressing up and having a mini Halloween party and I'm so excited!  I'm glad I have fun coworkers!

5. This post about Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren absolutely fascinates me.  The Birds is one of my faves.

6. I'm wicked excited about SOA tonight.  I hope they don't kill Juice.  I think they're going to kill Juice.  I might have to chain myself to a tree in protest if they kill Juice.

7. People were actually posting this shot as if it were a real picture of Hurricane Sandy.  What morons!  It's The Day After Tomorrow!

8. I heard Seaside Heights got slammed in the storm last night.  I wonder if the Shore Store made it out ok...

9. Anyone watch Breaking Bad and/or hate Taylor Swift?

10. If anyone is looking for a cute/quirky halloween movie, look no further than The Ghost and Mr. Chicken!  My sister, daddy and I used to watch it every year!

I hope everyone has a very safe and Happy Halloween!

Not According to Plan

Welp.  Me weekend definitely didn't go as planned.  Thursday afternoon and into the night I was sick.  Dizzy, sick to my stomach...blah blah.  I've been randomly doing this for the past few months.  Friday morning I sucked it up and went to work since I had overtime that I didn't want to screw up.  I ended calling my doctor only to be told that the doctor wasn't there today.  Not only was MY doctor not there, the nurse said NO doctors were in the office.  The HECK?!  I was pissed.  So my mommy came and picked me up from work and took me to the ER.  Lovely.  Chris met us there.  I got blood drawn, some fluids and had a sonogram or whatever you call it.  My gallbladder and liver are all good to go.  So now I'm just waiting to hear back from my primary doctor on when I can come get checked out.
So needless to say, we didn't make it to Sloss Friday night.  I was so disappointed I wanted to cry.  Saturday night was the big Halloween party.  We didn't stay as long as I'd have liked because Chris was worried I'd get sick in the cold.  What a sweetheart.
So yeah.  The big weekend I'd really been looking forward to didn't go quite as I had hoped but that's ok.  I'm feeling better today so maybe we can get to Sloss by Wednesday.
And I was so out of the loop Friday and this weekend that I didn't do Blanks!  And I never miss Blanks.  So here ya go.  Three days late.  In your mind just replace the "Friday" with "Monday".

1.  My favorite feeling in all the world is   about 4:30 on Friday afternoon when you realize you're about to be set free   .

2.  My favorite smell is    in a Starbucks.  I also like vanilla    .

3.  My favorite taste is   anything cheesy !

4. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen was    the grand staircase at the Titanic museum.  I cried a little .

5. The best sound ever is   a baby laughing!  I also like the sound of heels on concrete .

6. A smell that reminds me of my childhood is  the book "Soft Bunny".  I think that's what it's called.  I was in Buy Buy Baby the other day and picked it up and screamed "OMG! Kaylen, come smell this!!" .

7.  My favorite of all the senses is   sight.  There's so many beautiful things to see !

PS.  I hope all of my east coast friends stay safe this week!

300

I mentioned in my last Ten on Tuesday post that THIS post would be special.  And it is!  This post marks my 300th blog entry!
Not what you were expecting?  Sorry.

I am completely exhausted this week.  I'm thankful for all the overtime but good grief, it makes for long days.  On top of that I'm not feeling up to par.  Sneezing, coughing, burning eyes, sinus drainage...all the usual nasty stuff.

If this being my 300th post wasn't special enough, today is special because it's October 25th.  Our Maw would have been 89 years old today.  So I'm sort of in low spirits missing her.  Missing her smile, her hugs, her sweet voice, her reassuring touch.  And I'll always miss the smell of her Jergens lotion and her legendary chocolate cakes.  =)
I thought I'd share some of my favorite pictures of her.

The young, skinny one is my dad.  Her house looked exactly like that the day she passed.

Holding me for the first time.

I'm so ready for this week to be over.  It feels like Friday to me and that blows.  I know after a fun weekend of haunted houses and Halloween parties I'll be in better spirits.  If you're lucky to still have your grandmothers on earth, hug them for me today!

Lots of Love!

Ten on Tuesday - DEAD Tired

 1. I love this family photo from Jack Osbourne's wedding!  Ozzy looks so happy!

2. I'm excited about TV watching tonight!  On DWTS they're doing a team dance to Gangnam Style!  AND I have a feeling that someone is going to die on SOA.  Very exciting.

3. I discovered a new Pandora station: Halloween Theme (Main Title).  Good for getting you in the spooky spirit!  Seriously, there's a few that actually had me creeped out sitting at my desk.  "Carnival of Lost Souls" is one of them.

4. I'm gonna need you to stop:

5. I am DEAD tired from work.  My back is hurting from being hunched over my keyboard like Quasimodo.  But I'm getting overtime!  Ching ching!

6. My next post will be a special one.  You'll see why.

7. Speaking of work, tonight we ordered two large stuffed crust pizzas to the office.  Best work day ever.

8. Thought this was cool.  You kind of see how some of the actors might have influenced the artists!

9.  I think I like the name Diego.  Has Dora the Explorer ruined that name?

10.  I can't wait for Friday because we're going to Sloss Fright Furnace!  It's an AWESOME haunted house but it's supposedly really haunted.  Ghost Hunters and Paranormal Witness have been there.  I've always wanted to take a tour in the off-season.  Go read the stories!

Link up with Lin to play along!

Cinematic Adventures

After feeling kind of cruddy Friday I woke up feeling like death Saturday.  Nasty sinus stuff.  I didn't get out of bed much.  And it made me mad because it was a beautiful day outside!  So yesterday morning I woke up feeling a tad better so I got a shower and got ready to do our usual Sunday lunch and movie date.  We ate at McAllisters (my fave) and saw Paranormal Activity 4.  What a bummer.  Worst one yet.  Seven Psychopaths was last week and it was AWESOME.  But no matter how bad the movie is, going to the theater is one of our favorite things to do together.

This is us at 18 and 19...at the movies.  Me with my acne and him fresh out of boot camp!  Lovely.  I think this particular flick was Just Friends with Ryan Reynolds.  I don't know what it is about going to the movies with him that makes me so happy!  There are times sitting next to him in the dark with my Coke Icee and Buncha Crunch between us that I think that life doesn't get much better.  And I have to stop and thank God that he's my other half and pray that He never takes this away from me.

Friday Fill in the Blank

I started a blog post yesterday with "today can shoot itself in the face"...then never finished it.  That's how bad my day was yesterday.  But today the sun is shining, it's payday, I'm going to Cracker Barrel for lunch with my team of coworkers and it's Friday!!
 Cheers to the freakin' weekend!

1.  One thing I plan on doing to relax this weekend is    sleep in for sure.  I've been looking forward to that all week   .

2.  A big pet peeve of mine is  when people say "like" in every sentence unnecessarily.  Learn to speak   .

3.  I am really loving  how Chris and I have a new show to watch every night of the week.  Gives me something to look forward to!  Monday is DWTS.  Tuesday is the results of DWTS AND Sons of Anarchy.  Wednesday is Modern Family, Nashville and Ghost Hunters.  Thursday is Jersey Shore.  Don't judge .

4. The rain is   what rain?!  It's beautiful today!!  .

5. My favorite girly indulgence is  chocolate.  That's girly! .

6. A song I always get stuck in my head is  Gangnam Style!!  It's everywhere!  .

7.  The best cure for stress is  pizza and Netflix.  Ahhh....

Link up with Lauren and have a great weekend!

Ten on Tuesday - Got the Blahs

1. Today I've had a major case of the Blahs.  Just ugh.  And I think it's contagious.

2.  Perhaps one of the reasons for the Blahs is the horrible, awful nightmares I had last night.  I haven't had nightmares in a while but last night I woke up crying and haven't been able to get them out of my head all day.

3. I'm not even going to guess at who's getting kicked off DWTS tonight.  I've been wrong every week thus far.  Was Paula Abdul drunk last night or is that just the look she's going for now?

4. I've decided I need new flats for fall.  Something like this will do:

 5. I joked about the kitties not being sick in my Letters to Me post but when we took them to the vet, we actually had a sick Gus Gus!  I felt like such a horrible mom!

6. Anyone else have this problem?

7. I think I am (like everyone else it seems) in love with this song.  It never gets old for me!  My dad even loves it.

8. Did you seen Ryan Hurst on Brand X last week?  Who would have thought that Opie had so much personality?!

 9. I got some really exciting news today at work!  Like freak out, squeal a little, go outside the office and squeal some more.  Tell ya later...

10. I can't even lie.  I forgot it was Tuesday until lunchtime and then started thinking of what I could put in here.  I'm sitting here with Chris and said "what can I talk about?"  He said football.  Um...no.

Have a good rest of the week, lovies.

The Great Pumpkin Tradition

Like I've been talking about for the past couple of weeks, Saturday night we got together with David, Tracie and Tristan and carved pumpkins. Tristan was so funny! We got to hear him really talk for the first time! He was going on and on...about what I'm not quite sure.
Look at that lip!
Dad taking a break from pumpkins with T.
Can you tell which pumpkin's mine?  =)
Toward the end of the night we got to talking about how long we've actually been doing this every year.  We figured out that it's been 12 years.  Dad said we started doing it in the first place because he was having heart problems and had to have a defibrillator put in. That year he asked David to step in and help his 6 and 12 year old daughters carve their pumpkins because he just couldn't do it by himself.
I never knew that!
I knew dad had some pretty serious heart stuff when he was 40.  A pretty young age to start having trouble with your heart!  But I never knew it was so bad he couldn't carve a pumpkin.  That alone just makes me want to cry.  It makes me so thankful to have all my family together and healthy 12 years later!  David, Tracie and Tristan included!

Letters to Me

Alyssa,
What happened to not getting a sunburn in October?  You were applying spray-on sunblock in the wind, you idiot.  Learn from this.
-Your skin

♥ ♥ ♥

Dear Alyssa,
You spent so much time looking for me and you've only worn me once.  Granted you looked fabulous.  Please make some rich friends who throw good parties so you can have somewhere to wear me.  Pleeeease?
-Your Lauren Conrad dress

♥ ♥ ♥

Mom,
We don't have fleas and we're not sick.  We really don't need to go to the vet this morning.  Why don't you just stay in and watch movies instead?  It seems like that would be a much more productive use of your time.  Just lookin' out for you.
Love,
Gus and Dixie

♥ ♥ ♥

Alyssa,
Thank you for not slutting it up this Halloween.  You're going to look devilishly awesome.  Wink.  =)

A ROCKIN' Early Birthday Gift!

I am SO excited right now!
Last night my family and I went to Sumo to eat and as we were waiting Mom gives Chris a weird look and says "Oh, Chris!  I forgot that paper I was supposed to bring you from work!"  Random but whatever.  My mother's not very subtle.  She then exclaims "OH, Chris!  Did you see this text I got today at work?!" and hands him her phone.  He just says unenthusiastically "yea, that's neat".  He lets me see it and it's a receipt for six tickets to Trans-Siberian Orchestra for my birthday in December!!  I was so surprised!!  My parents took me to see it the first time for my 19th birthday, six years ago when Chris was deployed.  I'm equally excited for him to get to experience it.  I just can't explain well enough how powerful it is!  If you listen to the 24-7 Christmas station on the radio like I do starting in November, you've no doubt heard their music.  Wizards in Winter is probably their most popular.
What an awesome early birthday gift!!  Now I can't WAIT for December 12th to get here!

But I have to enjoy the rest of the Halloween season before then!  Today we're going to pick out pumpkins and decorate them with David, Tracie and Tristan!  We made a trip to Michaels last night to get supplies.  I have a plan for mine and I hope it works out as well as it did last year!  And our costumes were delivered yesterday too!  I'm just a ball of excitement.

What I'm not excited about right now:
-how my stomach feels after eating a whole take-home container of shrimp sauce from Sumo last night.  It's too good to stop!
-Having to take the kids to the vet tomorrow morning at 8.  Always an adventure.

If you haven't heard Trans-Siberian Orchestra, take a gander!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

Fill in the Blank Friday...Nashville Anyone?

Did anyone watch the premiere of Nashville this week?  We liked it!  I'm curious to see where it goes.  But there's something about Hayden Peneti...whatever, that I just can't stand.  And there's nothing I hate more than a fake southern accent.  Ugh.

On another note, our first ever coordinating couples costumes shipped yesterday and I'm very excited about it!

And as we do every Friday, please link up with Lauren to Fill in the Blanks!

 1.  My favorite flower is    yellow roses.  But I also like gladiolas   .
2.  You should never talk about  politics.  There ya go   .
3.  My favorite discovery as of late is   Gee, I dunno.  Chalupas at Taco Bell.  Been on a Taco Bell kick this week.  Can't get enough .

4. This fall you will probably find me wearing     colorful cardigans.  Gotta make a trip to Forever 21 .
5. I wish I were   On the couch watching The Exorcist drinking apple cider .

6. My favorite TV show currently is    Sons of Anarchy, baby!  It's the show we look forward to most each week !

7.  This weekend I want to  make a BOMB bedazzled pumpkin and watch Alabama win another game .

Everyone have a very Fall weekend!

Ten on Tuesday - Everyone is Happy!

1. The weather feels glorious this morning!  When I left for work it was 45 degrees.  I'm so glad the hot weather is OVER!

2. I truly hate Natalie Portman's new hair.  She's too pretty for that brassy blonde.  I wish she's go back to a pixie cut.

3. Tomorrow is my share day with my team at work.  They don't know it yet but I brought a little bit of the beach home with me just for them!

4. I was talking about little girl names in my last post.  A name that I'm falling in love with, but my husband thinks I'm crazy for...is Tallulah.  If I was to miraculously give birth to a girl tomorrow, she'd be Tallulah.
5. The night we got home from the beach, I unpacked, got cozy and watched The Shining.  Probably my 2nd fave horror movie.  Jack Nicholson is awesome in this movie.  But he's kinda crazy anyway so it probably wasn't much of a stretch for him.  What's your favorite horror movie?

6. I think everyone in Hueytown took happy pills this morning.  I went to two banks and Taco Bell on lunch and everyone was so nice to me!  This older gentlemen in line at the bank held the door for me and then told me to in line ahead of him because he was retired and had nothing else to do!

7.  I've been watching Breaking Amish on TLC.  Very interesting but my heart just breaks for them!  If you haven't seen it, it's worth a watch, just catch it from the beginning.

8.  Does it mean you're getting old when you watch movies or TV shows and you sympathize more with the adults than the teenagers?

9.  Watch DWTS last night?!  I might just be Team Olympian this year!  I loved Shawn and Apollo's dances!  And Bristol, Bristol, Bristol...time for you to go.

10.  For your cat-loving entertainment.  =)

I hope everyone is having as good a day as everyone is Hueytown is apparently having!

Everyone link up with Linny!

Equal Parts Scarlett and Melanie

It's no secret that Gone with the Wind is one of my two favorite movies (Titanic being the other).  When I was in 7th grade, I would come home from school every single day and watch this movie.  Not the whole movie every single day because it is about four hours long.  But I would just start wherever I left off the day before.  It was never ending!

With babies being a daily topic of conversation, I've been thinking about the name Scarlett for a little girl.  I love it.  It's beautiful, feminine, and undeniably Southern.  And that got me to thinking about what characters from my favorite movie I would want our hypothetical daughter to be like.  In my mind she would be perfect if she were equal parts Scarlett O'Hara and Melanie Hamilton.

First there's Scarlett.  The heroine.  The star.  The beauty.  She's "so attractive the men just naturally flock to her".  With her tiny waist, deep green eyes and perfectly arched brows (le sigh) she's stunning to behold.  Underneath her perfect, ladylike appearance, there's a lion.  She's smart, resourceful and always dependable.  When her mother died and she was in danger of losing her family's home, she pushed up her sleeves, picked cotton, and wheeled and dealed (not always with the best people).  She shamelessly did whatever it took to keep her beloved Tara and provide for the people who depended on her.  She was a survivor.  I like to think that all Southern women have a little Scarlett in them.

And then there's Melanie.  Meek, mousy and sickeningly sweet.  She's not the prettiest girl in the room but she greets everyone she meets with a genuine smile and a kind word.  Her husband says that no one could ever accuse her of being insincere.  You wish you knew her in real life!  She refuses to see anything but the best in people.  Especially the people she loves.  She's fiercely loyal.  When  BFF Scarlett is accused of having an affair with her husband, Melanie refuses to believe it and at the risk of her own reputation defends Scarlett publicly.  On her death bed Rhett makes the remark that she won't live because she never had Scarlett's strength.  "She never had anything but heart."

See what I mean?! I wouldn't want to have a daughter that's all Scarlett or all Melanie.  I just asked Chris if/when we have a daughter which woman would he rather her be like, Scarlett of Melanie.  He said "who's Melanie".  Clearly we need to watch it again.  If you've seen the movie, which character did you prefer?  If you haven't seen the movie...
....you're a communist.

Just kidding.

But really.  Take an afternoon to watch the movie and tell me what you think!

Buuurn, Baby Burn!

Yesterday the whole family and I spent the afternoon on the beach.  It was wonderful.  Sunny but not too hot with a nice, cool breeze.  AND I found a cute coverup at, where else, but Wal-Mart!  I was applying and reapplying sunscreen because I figured I'd burn easily seeing as this was the first time I've been in a swimsuit this year.  Apparently I didn't put on enough.  The tops of my thighs and my shins are burned nicely.  Painfully, actually.  Last night tossing and turning in bed was uncomfortable to say the least.  When I woke up I couldn't even walk.  Lovely.  I sat in the floor of the kitchen, pathetically, and put on Aloe Vera and took some Tylenol.  They're feeling a little better now.  I'm still so mad at myself that I let it get that bad.  I just want the pain to go away enough to have fun tonight when we take pictures on the beach go out to eat!

This afternoon I've been hanging out with the husband in the room eating crab claws and watching football.  And that's ok with me.

While I'm sitting doing nothing, I wanted to share some links I'm currently loving:

I caught myself drooling over this Kate Spade bag at the mall Thursday night.

Remember those jeans I told you shrunk after one wash?  Maybe this would be worth a try!

I really enjoyed this post about documentaries.  There are at least three I want to watch.

Love these costume ideas from InStyle.

Thank you, Target for making equestrian boots like I want at a reasonable price.

Fill in the Blank from the BEACH!

Good Morning from Gulf Shores, Alabama!  My family and I made the 5-hour drive last night and got to our condo at 12:30.  Needless to say 8:30 in the morning came early.  I've never been to the beach this late in the year and I have to admit, I might prefer it to coming in the summer.  There's no one here, it's cool and it's more beautiful than I've ever seen it.  We walked to Sea N' Suds for breakfast and we're about to head to the grocery store to get drinks and sun screen.  Remember that cute little one-piece and awesome cover-up I was telling you about?  Yea.  Not happening.  Haha.  Oh well.  I'm still at the beach!  HAHAHA!

Even at the beach there's time for Fill in the Blanks!  Link up with Lauren to play along!

1.  The last thing I ate was    Scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese grits and biscuits at Sea N' Suds.  Yum.   .

2.  The last time I went to the beach was   NOW!  Funny you asked!   .

3.  My last vacation was   aside from the weekend trip I'm on now, Gatlinburg in March.  As much as I love Gulf Shores I would leave here and go to TN in a heartbeat  .

4. The last place I drove was     home from work so I could pack in a hurry .

5. The last song I listened to was   Ace of Base "Beautiful Life".  Call me lame, but I love that song.

6. The last thing I watched on TV was    Probably Inglourius Basterds on my DVR.  Yea, I know.. .

7.  The last time I said "I love you" was  before we went to bed last night  .

10 on Tuesday - Immodest, Strawberry Blonde Llamas

1. Anyone watch DWTS last night?  I hate that my favorite guys are getting paired with sucky girls.  Looks like Mark will be the next to go.  Boo.

2. This might be the longest work week in recorded history, just because I know the beach is on the other end.

3. My dad and I finished painting our guest bathroom last night.  It's a lovely "jalapeno green".  It actually looked really good with the yellow tile.  This is the vibe I'm going for.  Sunny and happy.

 4. My dearest coworker Lauren brought me home-made bread this morning that she made with her family!  Seriously, sooo good.  Makes me want to knead something.

5. Last night made the 2nd night in a row I've dreamed about Sons of Anarchy.  I think I'm obsessed.  Did you see that mess about Johnny Lewis?  Crazy...

6. Truer words were never spoken.  You know who you are...

7. While in line at city hall today to pay for my garbage pick-up, a man behind me said "Got a question for you: is that what you call strawberry blonde?"  Referring to my hair.  He then asked exactly what I call it because it's beautiful.  THEN made sure I knew he wasn't trying to pick me up because he's old enough to be my grandfather.  FYI, I said I call it "brownish-red".

8. We set a date to carve/glitterfly pumpkins with Tristan (and David and Tracie)!  I'm so excited!  It's a tradition and it's something I really look forward to every year!

9. I don't know why, but this struck me terribly funny.

10. You know when you're in bed and you're in that weird place where you're neither completely awake or asleep, but you're mind keeps on churning out thoughts?  While in that place last night, I thought that I want my daughter to be equal parts Scarlett and Melanie from Gone with the Wind.  I'll expand on that later.

You should link up with Lin to play along.  Seriously, you should.

I hope everyone is having a FANTABULOUS week!

The Zone (Picture Heavy)

Saturday was the big game I've been so excited about and it did not disappoint!  My cousin from Florida, Jessica and her hubby, Chris joined me, Kaylen, Mama and Daddy.  We ate lunch at Genghis Grill and then went across the street to Gigi's cupcakes and picked up a couple to eat on the tailgate.

Beer Pong in full swing.

The Quad.

Denny Chimes

A bit blurry but this is the mob of people waiting for the player's buses to pull up.

It's a good thing we took this picture when we did, because right after this it started raining.  We took shelter under a tent of Marines trying to recruit.  Ha.

Mine and Kaylen's gate was right at the font of the stadium.  Because we were special like that.

In The Zone!  I never wanted to leave!

Kaylen and I had an AWESOME time in our AWESOME seats.  I had salad, fresh fruit, cheese, a hotdog and a brownie.  We cheered and cheered til we were horse and we sat right underneath the speakers so we couldn't hear by the end of it either.  But it didn't matter!  We were in the freakin Zone!
I started getting a bad headache around halftime and assumed it was from some truly offensive perfume sitting in front of me.  I was fine on the mile hike back to the truck afterwards but the second I sat in the truck my head started spinning and I felt sick to my stomach.  I was dizzy all the way home and started shivering about a few miles from the house.  When we pulled into the drive I snatched the keys from dad and raced upstairs to be sick.  I was sick and shivering all night long.
Lovely.
So yesterday my butt didn't get out of the bed except to take a nap on the couch.  I know.  Counterproductive.  But whatever.
DESPITE the sickies, I had a blast and could definitely get used to watching Alabama beat whoever we're playing from THE ZONE!
