Fill in the Blanks - Christmas Cheer!

We decided in my department at work to do Secret Santa for the month of December leading up to Christmas!  I've never participated in one before so I'm really excited about it.  And my partner is a lucky one!  I've got a long list made up so they get something small each day and then I've got one good gift in mind for the big reveal.  I'm really geeked up about this!

And now for Fill in the Blanks!  Link up with Lauren to play each week!
1.  "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is..."   wear a Santa hat and give out candy canes.  I dunno   .

2.  The holiday season is  my absolute favorite time of the year.  I get into it and this year will be no exception.  I just don't let myself get stressed about it    .
3.  When it comes to holiday decorating...     we go big at my parent's house.  At our home I hope to do the same!  Since we're just starting to move stuff into the new house, it might just be a strand of lights around the front door this year.   .

4. The thing I look forward to most about the holidays is   all the festivities!  The town Christmas parade, the shopping, the parties...  .
5. My favorite holiday tradition is  Christmas day with my family.  We wake up, Dad hands out gifts and Mom cooks breakfast.  It's my one favorite day of the entire year .

6. This year my Christmas plans include  doing things a little different.  Daddy is at the station Christmas day so we're going to play it by ear.  But it probably means Christmas Day with David, Tracie and Tristan!  .

7.  My favorite holiday food is  gingerbread cookies and Mom's ham Christmas day  .

Have a fantastic weekend!

Letters To Me

Dear Alyssa,
Remember a few years ago when you made fun of a co-worker on her 25th birthday for being "a quarter of a century old"?  JOKES ON YOU!  See ya next month!
Your 25th Birthday

My Dear Alyssa,
I know you're exhausted but I really appreciate all the extra hours you're logging in.  It will be worth it when you  buy yourself a new pair of boots and you don't feel guilty about it.  Keep up the hard work!
-Your Bank Account
PS.  Do you really need Taco Bell three times a week?  Couldn't you brown bag it a few days?

You need to lay off the pizza.  Do you know how greasy that is?!  Do you even care???  Delicious?  Sure.  But fattening??  You bet your expanding butt.  You are definitely going to get fat.
Your Jeans

We should hang out more.

10 on Tuesday - Homewrecking Cat Ladies

1. Christmas lights are starting to pop up in town and I love it!  I might have to put a strand around our front door even if we're not moved in yet.  I don't want to be a Scrooge!

2. I had a dream last night that I had a baby boy and Dad got mad at me because I named him Pheonix.

3.Pretty much:

4. Apparently this 10 on Tuesday post has gotten a MASSIVE amount of views from people googling "cat sweaters".  How many cat ladies are there???  I guess more than we know...

5. Chris in his wisdom has decided that once we move in the house, I'm going to start cooking and cooking healthy.  We'll see how long that lasts.  But I've been pinning recipes and this one looks delicious.

 6. DWTS Finale tonight!  My money is on Melissa and Tony.

7.  So the new thing on facebook is to post a picture that looks like a video so the user just keeps hitting the "play" button but nothing happens.  How bored do you have to be to come up with that?  And I totally fell for it.

8. On Fashion Police Kelly Osbourne pointed out that this is not a good dress to wear when trying to repair your home-wrecking image.  And I just love to hate on Kristen Stewart!

Ugh.  Better.

10. I put a little effort into my attire this morning and wore my boots over my skinnies.  Feeling super sassy today.  Rawr.

Blog Name Change

You might have noticed a change!
I've been saying forever that I was going to change it and it took me about that long to finalize a name that I loved!
And here it is!
Southern Charm is now Two-Thirds Scarlett.
Inspired by this blog post.
I updated my button (I hate making those) and the URL remains the same.
I'm really excited about this!

Sunday Social

Today is Sunday and the last day of this glorious 4-day weekend.  It's been a good one!  I decorated the tree last night with my family, something I always love.  Dad ceremoniously put a brand new angel on top.  Kind of a big deal.  I'm really not looking forward to going back to work.  But not much longer and we'll be going to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert and then my birthday and then we'll be off for Christmas!  So lots to look forward to!
I was surfing some blogs this morning and thought I'd try something new: Sunday Social with Neely @ A Complete Waste of Make-up and Ashley @ Ashley's Carnival Ride.  I don't know if I'll make it a weekly thing but it's always nice to do something different and meet new bloggers!

Thanksgiving Weekend

I trust everyone is having a wonderful long weekend!  Thanksgiving with the family was great.  Lots of food and memories made.  Kaylen even made Maw's chocolate cake.  It was perfect and tasted just like hers.  I love Thanksgiving.  Everything about it.  The wide variety of homemade food, the togetherness, even the family pictures!  We didn't take one with just our branch because we weren't exactly complete.  At the last minute Dad couldn't get off from the station because someone called in sick.  So that was the only rain cloud on our parade.

Yesterday was fun as well.  I decided that there was nothing I needed bad enough to get me out in the middle of the night with all the Black Friday crazies.  Instead we all got up at a decent time, got lunch at McAllister's and got to the mall around noon.  It turned out great!  Chris and I ordered an oven from Sears at a good price.  That was our goal for the day.  And it was pretty quick and painless.  American Eagle was having a good sale so I got a couple of Christmas gifts and then some loot for us just for fun.  Four women's shirts, one men's button up and three pairs of boxers for $89.  I thought that was pretty good!  We walked around and people watched some and then went home unscathed with our goodies.  Dad and I got the tree up and ready to decorate and we finally got around to watching The Ghost and Mr. Chicken together.  A little late for Halloween but that's ok.
Have a mentioned that I love this time of year?  I have?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Ten on Tuesday - Thankful for Good Meds

1. Welp.  I'm sick.  Can't speak and got a nasty cough.  I went to a doc in the box on lunch and got a steroid shot in the hip that burned like hell fire.  Seriously.  I wanted to punch the super nice nurse in the face. I hope this nonsense goes away by Thursday.

2. This movie looks really cute.

 3. I feel so crummy I'm not even watching my shows tonight.  The prescription cough syrup has done me in.  DWTS and SOA will have to wait...  Luckily the husband is willing to hold off so we can watch it together.  That's love.

 4. Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving lunch at work.  I signed up to bring corn casserole.  What was I thinking??  Now I have to get up early to throw the thing together!  Oh well...

5. Bought this top at Forever21.  Kind of excited about it.

 6. The husband and I are considering getting into the madness of Black Friday to find a good deal on a stove and/or microwave.  We sincerely need both and cheap would be good...I just don't know if I'm up to getting out with all the crazies.

7. I finally watched Mama Mia this week.  Super cheesy but cute!  I tried watching Rent before that.  Couldn't do it.  I  guess I should've known better.  It is a musical about AIDS after all.

8. I broke down when I got bored the other night and made a Pinterest board for nothing but cats.  Here's one of my favorites this week.  It's so true:

9. I've been wondering lately if I dress too young for my age.  I turn 25 next month and I don't see me ever giving up on wearing jeans, tees and chucks.  Might expand on this later.

10. If I didn't have to much to do tomorrow, I'm 90% sure I'd call in sick.

I know this 10 wasn't very chipper but it's all I can do right now.  Ha.  Link up with Linny each week to make your own 10.

If I don't post again before then, I hope everyone has a Happy and HEALTHY Thanksgiving!

Giving Blood: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

I said this morning in my post that today was going to be a girl's day with Kaylen: Breaking Dawn 2, coffee and shopping.  I made it to 1 out of 3.
When we got to the theater we saw that they had a blood drive bus set up in the parking lot.  I figured I've been sticked and pricked so many times in the last month I'm a pro at it by now and would do a good deed and donate my Type O blood for the first time.
But movie first.
Holy Mother of Pearl.  What a twist.  Mind. Blown.  If you're a fan of the saga, you'll be losing it in the end too, and most likely crying while doing so.
Anyway, after the totally awesome, incredible, mind-blowing movie, we went into the bus to give blood.  We had no idea what to expect since we'd never donated before.  We were asked for IDs and handed a questionnaire with a bunch of really specific questions.
Have you had a tattoo or piercing in the last 12 months?  Have you had a blood transfusion in the United Kingdom?  Have you had sex with a male that has had sex with another male?  Were you a service member or a military dependent between 1965 and 1983?
They took my height, weight and pricked my finger to determine my blood type.  At this stage of the game Kaylen is disqualified because she doesn't weigh enough.  Turns out that was a good thing.  The nice nurse set me up on the little bed thing and got me started.  The needle was HUGE.  Much bigger than at the doctor.  I almost backed out.  I actually said "SH*T that's a big needle!"  She got the blood flowing and I was ok.  It took maybe 15-20 minutes to get all they needed.  I felt PERFECT.  Felt like I could still go shopping.  Shoot, I felt like I could climb a mountain.  The nurse took the needle out and I said I would take an orange juice with me...just in case.  I thanked her and walked out with Kaylen.  I felt a little woozy.  No big deal.  We got in the car and I drank some juice.  Things went downhill from there.  It went something like this:
Kaylen, maybe we should just go home.
Kaylen, let's just sit in the car for a minute.
Kaylen, maybe you should get the nurse.
I knew what was about to happen.  The nurse came to the car and opened my door and said "Not feeling so good are you, sweetie?  Can you walk with me back to the bus?"   I got out and collapsed on the ground.  Kaylen said I stood back up with her help, which I don't remember and then went limp in the two nurse's arms.  Lights Out.  Apparently I was hauled into the bus by my arms and legs with Kaylen holding my head.  I was already coming back when they stuffed my shirt with ice packs and asked me to chug as much of a Pepsi as I could.  After another 20-30 minutes of laying there like a slug Kaylen took me home after I was feeling well enough to walk to the car.  I was so embarrassed.
It's amazing to me.  Kaylen is 6 years younger than me and sometimes she plays the part of the big sister.  I'm so thankful for a sister that keeps her cool when I'm coming unraveled.
So here I am laying in bed feeling kinda crappy.  Going to try the coffee and shopping again tomorrow.
And I'm never giving blood again.  Next time I feel like doing something noble I'll just write a check.

Fill in the Blank...Saturday.

This morning I've woken up with a seriously sore throat. Lovely. I took some sinus medicine and am currently drinking OJ.  I don't have time to be sick!  Today Kaylen is home and we are going to see the new Breaking Dawn movie!  I'm a little too excited.  After that we're taking part in some much needed retail therapy.  And maybe sprinkle in some coffee somewhere.

I'm SO ready to get this next work week over with.  Three days of working and working hard and late...and then a 4-day weekend!  Woohoo!!  I love the holidays.  After next week I think it will be time to break out the Christmas decorations.

I missed Fill in the Blanks yesterday, so here they are.  Better late than never.  Link up with Lauren each Friday to play along.

1.  My best quality is   fierce loyalty.   .

2.  One of my less flattering qualities is  jealousy.  It's no where near as bad as it used to be but I've always been jealous.  Not just over boys.  Friends that have other "best friends", my parents paying attention to other kids, and don't even start on skanks flirting with my Chris     .

3.  I'd rather be    painting my kitchen   .

4. Something I have been challenged with lately is   remaining calm and letting things roll off my back.  Chris tells me I get worked up too easily and it's not good for me.  Sweet husband   .

5. I am looking forward to  the Thanksgiving 4-day weekend!  And seeing Breaking Dawn with Kaylen this weekend!  .

6. A super random factoid about me is  I don't like my feet to be touched  .

7.  I want to  go shopping at Forever 21!!  I need long sleeve shirts!!  .

10 on Tuesday - Dancing Cats in Pajamas

1. Happy Birthday to the husband!  He's 26 today.  Weird to think of him being 30 in four years.  Sumo tonight!  His favorite place.

2. On to DWTS.  As soon as I found out what the theme was (military) Chris went and got me some tissues.  I really and truly only cried once.  Shawn's trio dance was by FAR my favorite!

3.We (or more specifically I) started Christmas shopping Sunday!  And I'm half way done.  I can't help but be proud of myself.

 4.  For a while I didn't get on Pinterest and I thought "eh, I'm over it".  I was wrong.  Now I'm on a Pinterest KICK.

5. Floors are being put in our house next week!  Happy Dance!

6. So The Biebs and Selena Gomez broke up.  Boo hoo.

7. This is one trend I just can't get behind: Pajama Chic

8. I figured out this year for Christmas one thing I'm definitely going to ask for is a Dunkin Donuts gift card.  It's the gift that keeps on giving.

9. BIG shout-out to Applebee's for caring enough about Veterans to give Chris a free meal Sunday.

10.  This made me LOL!  I love cat faces!  And you know I couldn't have a whole 10 on Tuesday without at least one cat.

Link up with Linny to play along and have a good rest of the week!

"What is a Veteran?  A veteran - whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -  is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount of 'up to, and including his life'."

It was hardly ever easy.  Most times it was down right hard, but I am so thankful he made the selfless decision to join the Marine Corps in 2005.  No matter what occupation he has the rest of our lives, I will always be proud of him.

Even though they deserve thanks 365 days a year, take time to thank a Veteran today.

Meeting Gemma

Last night I met someone really exciting (well exciting to me) and I had to share!   I put a couple of pieces of jewelry on facebook to sell and met up with a lady last night to give a necklace to her.  She wanted to meet at a place in a neighborhood that can be shady at night so I called and told her I was parked at well-lit gas station just down the road.  When I told her where I was and why she told me that on that same street there's a bike club called [insert cool biker name here] and her husband is a member there.  She said if I wanted to, I could sit in the parking lot and it won't get much safer than there with all the bikers around.  I politely declined but was intrigued.  When she arrived at the gas station and we made the exchange I said "I've GOT to ask because I may never get another your husband's bike club anything like Sons of Anarchy??  PLEASE tell me it is!"  She threw her head back and laughed.

She explained that his club isn't a 1% club but supports one.  I had NO idea what she was talking about so I asked what the heck a 1% club is.  She said that 99% of bikers are good, law-abiding citizens but then there's that 1% that is actually like SOA!  She went on to say that her husband's club does push the limits and their luck sometimes but they're part of the 99% and support a 1% club called [insert totally awesome 1% club name here].  I can only imagine the look on my face when I told her how fascinated I was by this.  She said "just call me!  I'll bring you to the club and let you see for yourself!"  With that I shook her hand and told her I was SO happy to meet her!

I was so glad I got to meet her!  Every week when we watch SOA, Chris and I talk about if there really could be MC's like the Sons.  I thought not.  But I guess I was wrong!  So my dreams of leather-wearing, gun-wielding, tattooed, vigilante bikers are alive!

Please excuse me while I get a rose inked on my chest...

...but not before Fill in the Blank Friday!  Friday's almost over but you can link up with Lauren each week to play along!

1.  I like   cats, pajamas, hazelnut coffee, going to the movies, Disney songs and ballet flats   .

2.  A life goal of mine is   at the moment to be able to be a stay-at-home-mom when the time comes.  Not exactly a life goal but it's as far ahead as I can think right now    .

3.  The last thing you would ever expect me to like (even though I secretly do) is   metal.  I added a Ramstein Pandora station today  .

4. Some wise words that I love are    "worry about nothing, pray about everything" .

5. Most mornings you will find me   unfortunately at a desk hunched over a keyboard .

6. Right now I am super into   leggings under oversized shirts.  So easy and comfortable.  And when I say "oversized" I mean covers my butt and front.  MUST BUY MORE OVERSIZED SHIRTS!! .

7.  Right now I am super over  bad attitudes, clogs and fuchsia lipstick  .

10 on Tuesday - Cat Sweaters? I Think So

Oh another Tuesday, another 10.  Link up with Linny to create your own!

1. This time change is throwing me the heck off.  But I don't really mind it because at 6 o'clock when I'm all "crap!  I still haven't done this and watched that and it's so late!"'s still early!

2. Millie @ Smothered with Love posted this awesome cat sweater!  I would absolutely wear this.

3. Speaking of cat sweaters, my coworker came in yesterday in a cute one from Forever21.  Are cats as popular as owls now?  Because if they are I SO loved them before they were cool.

4. I'm proudly sporting my "I Voted" sticker!  Yay for elections being over!!

5. Yesterday in the waiting room at the dr. this sweet young black guy with special needs came and sat next to me and asked me how I was doing, my name, how old I was.  His name was Patrick and his 18th birthday is today.  When his grandmother came and got him, he gave me a big hug and kissed my cheek.  As they walked away his grandmother said "oh, you're giving out free hugs today?  is that it?"  Haha.  Absolutely made my day so much better.  So Happy Birthday to Patrick wherever he is!

6. Yesterday after the dr. I went to get my eyes checked.  First time in at least 5 years.  I forgot how trippy you look when they dialate your eyes.  My mother took a picture but it's too embarrassing.

7. I think I'll ask Santa nicely for something like this for Christmas.
 8. Since I was too sick to join in the fun at Christmas Village Saturday, my grandmother got me the cutest cat salt and pepper shaker set.  One was gray with a pink nose like Gus and the other is calico like Dixie!

9 This is how I felt this morning when I was still under the influence of the new meds from the doc.  Took a good 2-3 hours into work to wear off.

10. I'm really enjoying reading some new blogs through the ladies that have participated in the Liebster Awards!

I hope everyone has a good week.  Only 3 more days til the weekend!

Liebster Award!

This weekend had already started off crappy.  Instead of eating Japanese last night and going to Christmas village this afternoon...I got sick again last night.  So today will be spent in the bed eating saltine crackers and drinking Sprite.  I was once again sorely disappointed and ready to cry.

And then I looked at my comments and saw that I had been nominated for a Liebster Award by Jessica at Living La Vida Holoka!  I've really come to love blogging and reading blogs.  But sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself.  So it's [very] nice to be nominated for this and know that someone is reading and actually likes my blog!

Fill in the Blank - Cheers to the Weekend!

Hello all!
This Friday I'm particularly excited because tomorrow I'm going with the women in my family to Christmas Village! It's a massive showroom of homemade crafts, party food, and holiday decor to buy. I'm probably most excited about sampling the food! And I hope the rest of the work day goes by fast because tonight it's Japanese with Chris and my parents! Yay for yum yum sauce!! I could drink that stuff.
On to Fill in the Blanks! You know the drill. Link up with Lauren to play!

1.  Something I swore I'd never do, but have ended up doing anyway is    drink beer.  Now I enjoy a Killians every once in a while.  =)   .

2.  Something I've always wanted to do is   go to Washington DC and see the sights.  .

3.  Something I have absolutely no desire to ever do is   Smoke.  Never understood it  .

4. The best thing I ever did was   marry Chris when I did.  I grew up and became responsible fast and made the most awesome friends  .

5. When it comes to trying new things, I am  usually up for it!  Especially trying new places and food .

6. One thing I've never done is  smoke...anything.  Seriously  .

7.  My favorite thing do do is  cuddle up with Chris and watch movies.  Cliche but whatever.  One thing I've discovered recently that I really enjoy is sitting in front of an outside fire.  The most fun I had last weekend after getting sick was sitting in our friends back yard in front of the fire watching Paranormal Activity 2.  There's just something about it that is so comfy  .

 Cheers to the Weekend!

Dueling Holidays

I hope everyone had fun last night trick-or-treating, handing out candy, visiting haunted houses, watching horror movies or doing whatever it is that you DO on Halloween!  The husband and I finally made it to Sloss last night.  The temperature was perfect for a haunted house.  Cold but not freezing.  We sat and watched Halloween on the projector screen while we waited to go in.  When our group was called and we got split into smaller groups, I was SHOCKED that a couple with us brought their baby! ...BABY!  Like still small enough to cry and be carried in one of those cross-body baby carriers.  Why would you do that?!
Anyway, when I got home from work yesterday I saw that they had cut my hay field.  That always makes me sad.  But such is life I guess.

Now that Halloween is over (which also makes me sad) it's time to start thinking about Thanksgiving and then the mother of all holidays: Christmas.  By far still my favorite.  Don't get me wrong.  I absolutely adore Halloween.  Even more so just in the past few years.  Dressing up, the parties, the make-up, the music, the movies, the pumpkins and so forth.  It's so much fun!  But in the end, that's all it is.  Just plain fun.
Christmas actually has meaning to me!  It's something to celebrate!  It's one of the events that my entire faith and life is based on!  Christmas has always been special to me.  My dad is a Christmas nut and I guess I am too.  I love everything about it.  The tree, the beautiful lights, the colors, the cold, the family togetherness.  I love the song "What is This" from The Nightmare before Christmas.  It's perfect!  You can't describe it and can't really put it into words...but it makes you feel warm and happy!
But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  There IS still Thanksgiving!  This is most definitely my favorite time of year.
