Links from Alyssa

 Hello, dear friends.
I have felt like the walking dead this entire week.
I just can't seem to get enough sleep!

My day was just made by a text message from my long distance bestie!  She's in town for a couple days for a wedding.  She's a God-send after a really crappy day yesterday.  Isn't it nice to catch up with friends you haven't seen in a long time and it's like you pick right back up where you left off?  Like you haven't been apart at all!  I've really missed her!

Check out these cute/awe inspiring/somewhat gross/totally hilarious links from around the interwebs!

These before-and-after celebrity photoshop gifs are fascinating to me.  It always makes me feel better to know that these gorgeous famous faces need a little help too.  But Katy Perry is still pretty much perfect.

See?!  I'm not the only one loving the name Tallulah for a baby girl! (Cough cough, Kaylen.)

Maybe if I had one of these Disney inspired aprons I would cook more.  I think Cinderella's work apron is my favorite.

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen.  And that hair!

These photos are so moving.

I told you cakes shaped like pregnant bellies creep me out...but they don't hold a candle to these truly awful baby shower cakes.

A sparkly cake and a blog after my own heart.

Want to purchase the official poster commemorating the 85th Annual Oscars??  It features 85 Oscar statuettes inspired by the winner from each year respectively.  I would love to have this framed and hanging in my house!  I wonder how Argo will be represented...

If you don't go to any other link on this page...please go to this one and enjoy this extremely funny (very short) video.  Chris and I were in tears for 10 minutes over this.  You'll thank me later.

Happy Friday Eve, yall!

10 on Tuesday - Oscar Edition!

So what did everyone think of the Academy Awards???  I'm sad it's over.  It's like the day after Christmas.  No more red carpets???  It just can't be.

For today's 10 on Tuesday I decided to make them (you guessed it) about the Oscars!
Be sure to link up with Linny and Amber and make your own 10 random thoughts about anything you want!

1. First and foremost, Best Dressed: Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence.  What can I say?  I'm an absolute sucker for ball gowns and old hollywood.
Honorable Mentions: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Charlize Theron and Amanda Seyfried.

2. And now the unfortunate Worst Dressed:  Anne Hathaway (so disappointing I don't even know where to begin), Maria Menounos (she ruined an arguably pretty, on trend dress with too tight of a cut, a tan a few shades too dark and the dumbest of hair styles), and Salma Hayek (hate the neck on her and again, a stupid hair style on a beautiful woman).

3. I thought Seth McFarlane did a wonderful job!  But I'm a little disappointed he didn't do Stewie at least once.

4. I absolutely LOVED the wrap-it-up music. Surely that was the host's doing.

5. Two questions: Why was Kristen Stewart on crutches, and why did she not brush her hair before going to the Oscars?  I would comment on how awkward she was presenting...but really...what's the point?

6. Yay for Christoph Waltz!!  My favie!

7. One of the funniest moments for me was the The Sound of Music throwback when McFarlane introduced Christopher Plummer.  Spot on.  Spot on.

8. Poor Jennifer Lawrence tripping! That is absolutely something that would happen to me.  I'd be walking toward the biggest moment of my young life and face plant in front of all of my peers.  God love her...

9. I was ready for the Jaws theme to play when Anne Hathaway wouldn't stop gushing when she won for Best Supporting Actress.

10. I have a list ten movies deep now of movies I want to watch.  And Silver Linings Playbook is neck a'neck with Les Mis.

Have yall actually seen any of the movies that were nominated?
Tell me your thoughts!...because I kind of want to see them all.  Except Beasts of the Southern Wild.  No interest there.

Lets all deal with our award show withdrawals the best we can.
Have a good week!

Sunday Social School Memories Edition - And a Sucky Saturday

Saturday was not a good day for my little clan.

We took the kids to the vet for a followup from two weeks ago.  Gus has had ulcers in his mouth off and on for a little while now.  He usually gets shots with each visit to make him comfortable.  Well last time we were there they noticed them on Dixie for the first time.  Today was no better.  Gus's ulcers are still there and they said Dixie has a "mass" on the back of her tongue.  Our doctor even called in another doctor because he'd never seen anything like it.
Very comforting.
A lot of the vet talk was over my head but the words "biopsy" and "surgery" were thrown around.  I could have just stood there and cried.  We still don't know what it is on her tongue but we've got to get in touch with the vet after he gets back from vacation next week to decide the next step.  It could be something completely harmless related to the ulcers.  But if it's not it could cost major bucks to fix, which we will gladly spend because they're our babies!

When we got home Chris ran to the local convenient store to get some ingredients for dinner and to see if they'd restocked my oreo cakesters.  The clerk told him she heard they'd stopped making them!  A bad day just got worse!  I made a plea to my friends on facebook that if anyone happens to see them ANYWHERE to please by them for me and I would pay them.
I'm desperate.
Or addicted.

And finally on to Sunday Social.  One of my favorites.  Link up with Neely and Ashley to play along and "meet" some awesome blog chicks.

Sunday Social

1. What was your biggest middle school fashion mistake?
Mercy, there were a few...but the first one that comes to mind is birkenstocks...with everything.  With shorts, capris, dresses...didn't matter.
2. Who were your best friends in high school? Pics?

Prom Car
Chris of course.  This was his junior prom (I was a sophomore) so this would have been 2004.

straw cowboy hats
Marissa, even though we were long distance BFFs.  This was on our annual Gulf Shores trip right after graduation.
 photo HPIM1966.jpg
And Morgan.  In Government class senior year if I'm not mistaken.
3. What was a typical weekend like for you in high school?
Nothing exciting on Saturdays and then church on Sundays.

 4. Did you have any boyfriends/girlfriends? Tell us about that.
I only had one in high school!  We got together summer before freshman year and I married him 11 months after graduation.  Short story!

5. Did you have any secret codes with your friends? Spill your secrets!
In middle school Marissa and I had code names for guys.  Two of them were Mr. Bubbles and Peter Pan.  And I will NEVER say who they were.
I also think I remember us making up a symbol alphabet so that if any notes we passed back and forth were found no one would know what we were talking about.  Haha.

6. If you could relive one day/moment/experience from middle school or high school, what would it be?
There's nothing in middle school I would go back to.  I hated it for the most part.
I would go back to fall of senior year when I won 2nd alternate on the homecoming court.  I'll never forget standing on the football field arm in arm with Daddy looking up at the people in the stands when they called my name.  When they gave me my sash, on the home video you see me look back at Dad, still in the line with all the losers other girls and their dads and just say "Daddy!"  I couldn't believe it!  One of the best moments for me.

I feel silly for asking but if you could spare a little prayer for our furballs I'd appreciate it.
Everyone have a happy Sunday!
And here's to a better week!

cat in hallway
Very blurry but it's the only picture I got the night we brought the kids to their new home.

Reading: Jurassic Park.  I finally just finished Damned and it was very good.  A little gross but good.  Anyway, I started reading Jurassic Park yesterday while waiting for dinner to cook.  The movie absolutely terrified me as a kid (and still kind of does).  I don't know why but I really like reading books that came before movies.

Watching: The Americans on FX.  It's exciting!  I really like Matthew Rhys as Phillip.  To me he carries the whole show.  Keri Russell is decent but in my opinion it's Phillip's story.  Did you know it's based on a true story about real Russian spies that hid in plain site for decades?  Scary thought.

Eating: Pizza.  I'm almost completely burnt out on it.  Monday night Chris ordered some wings for himself and an entire large stuffed crust pizza for me.  I had some that night when I got home from a church service and I've had pizza for lunch the past two days.  I don't know how much more I can take.  But I know after this week we won't be ordering anymore...for a long long time.

Wanting: To go shopping!  Everyone is putting out their spring stuff and it's making me sick of cold weather!  I'm already putting outfits together in my mind that I want.  Mint skinnies, white tee and tan sandals.  I think a trip to Forever21 is in order.

Thinking about: How I'm going to decorate the house.  Not a single thing has been hung on the wall.  We (me, Chris and Daddy) spent so much painting the walls and getting them pretty and perfect that I'm terrified to put a tiny nail hole in them.  And I'm so indecisive!  I have NO idea where I want to put stuff.  I had this idea (that I got from Pinterest) of having a wall in the hall covered with random mirrors, prints and picture frames.  But that's a lot of nail holes!  How do you have your walls decorated?  Reckless abandonment or minimalist chic?

10 on Tuesday - Miley Cyrus, Kevin Bacon and Adolf Hitler

1. Lauren and I really want to make a Harlem Shake video at work.

2. Why does Miley Cyrus insist on dressing like a hillbilly street walker?
Miley Cyrus cut-off shorts

3. I was dreaming about smoothies last night and now I want a peanut butter banana smoothie real bad.

4. I told you I've been listening to documentaries on WW2 and the Nazis.  After watching Inglorius Basterds for the thousandth time Sunday night I googled Joseph Goebbels (Hitler's right hand man) and found this photo on his Wikipedia page:
Hitler with child
I couldn't stop looking at it.  There's something very unnerving about seeing a mass-murdering maniac being so...gentle with a child.
That's enough about Hitler...

5. I think Forever21 designed their clothes for girls with no boobs.

6. Anyone else feel this way?  I would pay someone to sit and play with my hair for an hour.

 7. We started watching The Following!  Watched three episodes back to back and loved it.  But I just love Kevin Bacon!

8. Pinned this the other day.  Dennis Quaid is probably my favorite:

9. This might be the first Ten on Tuesday ever without a cat reference.  Crap, I said cat.

10. This has got to be my favorite commercial right now.  It makes me happy!

Link up with Linny and/or Amber to play along!
Have a great week!

Sunday Social...and the Things You Find in Boxes You Haven't Touched in 3 Years

Morning, all.
Yesterday I was hard at work in the little bed room that's currently housing all of our boxes from storage.  I'm using the other bedroom as kind of a distribution center.  I have a corner for stuff to go in a yard sale, a corner for the Goodwill, a corner of Florida junk that will go in Chris' man cave, a corner of stuff that needs to be washed and corner to go up in the attic.  I realize I've just named more corners than the square room actually has.  Whatever.
I was getting so nostalgic!  I found all of Chris' mail from boot camp and his deployments.  It took me about an hour and a half to go through that box alone.  I found pictures from my lingerie shower (I still have blackmail on quite a few ladies), Maw's copy of A Walk to Remember she let me have, all the notes I wrote to Chris in high school, and all of my Hooters uniforms.  Lord have mercy. It's fun finding all these things that I'd forgotten about!
Today will be another day of digging in and sorting out.  And hopefully making the two spare rooms actually look more like bedroom.
But first...Sunday Social with Neely and Ashley.  Link up and play along!
Sunday Social
1. Best Valentines Day you’ve ever had:
Last year was memorable.

2. Worst Valentines Day you’ve ever had:
2008.  It was the 2nd one in a row that Chris was deployed for.  He'd been gone for 6 months and I was pretty much over it.

3. What did you do for Valentines this year?
We did the whole no gifts thing this year and ate real expensive big at Fleming's, our new favorite special occasion place.  Chris did manage to squeeze in a surprise.  He had a friend (shout out to our favorite computer whiz, Joel) make me a CD that he played on the way to dinner.  The first song was The Lumineers Ho Hey and the 2nd was Phillip Phillips (WHY did his parents do that??) Home.  He thought it was appropriate, and it was.

4. Best Valentines Idea if you’re single:
Have a party with all your single friends, of course!

5. Favorite Valentines Candy?
A big ole' box of chocolates or chocolate dipped strawberries...yum.  I took my box from Daddy to work Thursday and Lauren and played a V-day version of Russian Roulette.  We chose a piece of candy without looking at the cheat sheet telling you what kind it is!  Because like Forrest says: You never know what you're gonna get!

6. Favorite Valentines Memory from your childhood:
Making little Valentine mail boxes for everyone in the class to put there Valentine cards.  I wish we'd have thought to do that in the office this year!
Have a great week!
And remember, if you get down this week and start thinking life could have taken a Carnival cruise.  That should cheer you up.

My New Color Obsession - Hot Pink

Just in time for Valentine's Day, a blog post covered in pink!
I get that this extremely bold color isn't everyone's cup of tea...but the 14 year old girl in me is ecstatic that it's a huge trend right now!  It's feminine with a little edge.

I live in flats year round so these would be a wonderful addition to my closet.

I fell in love with this the moment I saw it.  The girl can't have a bad look.  Emma Stone in full on hot pink Valentino.

In matters of hot pink, Kate Spade can always be counted upon.

This American Eagle shirt WILL be mine.

I'm not a fan of this chick and she got some hard flack for this little number...but she earned a few points from me. Lea Michele in Elie Saab.
And perfect for today, from my favorite...Forever21.

I could go on with this...but I have to go to work.
Tonight the husband and are eating big so we didn't do gifts.  I already told my co-workers not to expect any singing quartets in the office like last year.  =)  Sweetest husband ever.  God love him.
Even if you don't have a significant other on this day, there's someone in your life who you love!  Call your friends, Mom, sister, whoever and tell them you love them!  My daddy gave me chocolates last night (he always spoils us three women) and a card.  His cards never fail to make me cry!
Now to work!...wearing pink.  Just because.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Ten on Tuesday - Grammys, Ugly Babies and Just Plain Crazies

1.If they cut to Taylor Swift dancing around during the performances one more time at the Grammys Sunday night, I was going to shoot myself and let the brain matter just splatter all over the flat screen.
Was that a bit much?  I think maybe.
2. I know "all babies are cute" and all that jazz but...Kourtney K's isn't.

 3. In lieu of the Kate Spade handbag I so desperately want, I'm going to have to make a trip to Charming Charlie and shop in the hot pink section.

4. This is awesome!  And yet I still love my cats...

5. After a couple of weeks of searching, I'm fairly certain only gas stations and convenient stores carry Oreo Cakesters.  Elusive little chocolaty pricks...

6. I fell in love with this bedding in Belk last weekend.  It would match our bedroom walls perfectly!  Sadly, you see the name brand.  Oh well...  GOSH my tastes are getting expensive.
7. True words:
"Rihanna, with Chris Brown you're not bright like a diamond.  You're dumb like a rock."
-Joan Rivers

8. Something I think we can all agree on...

9. Speaking of crazies, I started listening to documentaries on YouTube at work.  If you're interested in WW2 and the Third Reich and all that you should watch this one about a Holocaust denier on trial.  Very interesting.

10. Every time I see a picture of Julianna Hough I want to run to the nearest salon and say CHOP IT OFF!  It's such a sweet cut!

By now you know the drill.  Link up with Lovely Linny and Amber to play along!
Happy Tuesday!

Sunday Social...and a Mini Lust List

After my pity party funk I was in last week, I'm starting off the new week with the Sunday Social link up that I enjoy so much.
But first a couple of things...

-I'm loving everything about this Alabama Home Tee!  It took living somewhere else for three years to realize how much I love the state I call "home".  It's simple and perfect.  The tees are completely American made and the website has an idiot proof size guide so you can't go wrong.  Plus a portion of the profits go to Multiple Sclerosis research (something close to home).
-While walking through Belk today I half-jokingly asked Chris if I could buy a purse (he never tells me "no").  It just happened to be this super awesome, super pink, (super expensive) Kate Spade bag.  He looked at the price tag and walked away.  It would be so perfect for me!  I would never ask for another purse ever again!  Forget Coach.  Forget Chanel.  There is only Spade!

-Went to Best Buy and got Inglorius Basterds on DVD for 10 bucks.  Score!  Now to brush up on my German...

NOW onto Sunday Social.  Link up with Neely and Ashley to play along!
Sunday Social

1. What was your first car?
2003 Mitsu Lancer.  Loved it.

2. Who was your favorite childhood teacher?
Mrs. Thrasher.  2nd grade.  One of the sweetest ladies on this earth.  She sadly passed away on Christmas day two years after I was in her class.

3. Were you involved in any sports/extracurricular activities?
I did karate for a couple of years.  I have a black belt.  My whole body is basically a weapon.
In middle school choir was my thing.  In high school I was I was in drama and on the yearbook staff.

4. What was your favorite birthday party? 4th was pretty cute.  It was Dalmatian themed.  Haha.  I even had a specially made little white outfit with spots.  I am a firefighter's kid afterall...

5. Who was your teen celebrity crush?
Lance Bass and Leonardo Dicaprio.  It broke my heart when Lance came out of the closet and I realized I never really had a chance.  But Leo still owns me...=)

6. What show/movie did your parents not allow you to watch?
Nothing really.  They weren't very strict when it came to movies and TV.
Wait.  I take that back.  They quit letting my watch All That because they always had rappers perform at the end.  Haha.

Here's to a good week!

A Different Perspective

After a super stressful weekend and Monday at work (see last blog post), I got up Tuesday morning on a completely different side of the bed.
As soon as my eyes opened I had Florence + The Machine's Dogs Days Are Over stuck in my head.  That song makes me so happy!  I prayed and just thanked God for another day to get up, go to work, and come back to my new home, even if it does have things that need to be fixed.  I'm happy to own and share a house with my husband at all.
This week has been a huge week at work after months of preparation and hard work.  I got to my office and my coworker/friend was in the same oddly peaceful mood I was.  She said "I was listening to Dog Days Are Over in the car on the way here and I just knew that everything was going to be ok!"  I said "NO WAY!"  Hahaha. Don't you love those moments?
Maybe it was because of the new stress-free attitude or maybe God took pity on me, but for whatever reason my skin cleared up.  Now it's back to seeing 25 year old Alyssa in the mirror.  Thank you, Lord.

So yesterday I let go of my little stresses and got a new, happier outlook.
Except for when it comes to my neighbor.  I still want to punch him.
But other than that!

So next time you're having a bad day, think about what that guy in the VW Bug commercial says:
Turn dat frown, the otta way around!

Stressed Much? - A Rant

I didn't participate in the Sunday Social yesterday.  To be honest, I woke up and just didn't feel like it.  I've been incredibly, like almost at the end of my rope a bit stressed.  I thought it might make me feel better to get it all out.  Please excuse the negativity I'm about to put out into the universe:

-For starters, there's always something wrong with the house.  Not only does the basement flood (something the inspector didn't catch and the sellers were mum about) but a water pipe busted under the sink Saturday and made my brand new floor buck.  We're going to have to replace the cabinet under the sink and not use the dishwasher til we get it fixed.  I ask you, nay, I implore you.  If you ever sell your home, be forthcoming with your buyers.

-I'm absolutely convinced that Aunt Flo is out to get me.

-On a sunny note.  I finally got to wear my LC dress that I wore once in an event where I was the only one wearing a dress at all.  Gees.  #overdressed.

-I want to punch one of my neighbors everytime I drive by his house and see his American flag on the pole...upside down.  It's been like that since the election.  We're not in distress you freaking idiot.  Have some respect and turn it rightside up or take the damn thing down.  Piece of trash.

-I believe it's because of said stress that my skin has turned on me.  Nothing sucks worse than waking up, looking in the mirror and seeing your 16 year old self.

 Ok...maybe a little.
All I want right at this very moment is an oreo cakester or a whole bag of Andes mints.

Have a great freakin' week.
