"...The Midnight Hour is Close at Hand"

Happy Halloween, yall!  I'm really excited about my first Halloween at the new job and seeing a different side to everybody.  BUT I'm missing Lauren terribly.  Today is her favorite and last year was so much fun.

Kaylen came over last night to practice my look (I'm totally helpless with hair and makeup) and I think it's pretty good!  I can't wait to share pictures.

I hope everyone that loves Halloween as much as I do BASKS in all its red and black and slimy green glory today. (Thank you, those of you that got that.)  Dress up, listen to the Rocky Horror soundtrack, eat candy, and watch scary movies tonight.  We're supposed to get a line of thunderstorms in this evening so the atmosphere might just be nice and spooky.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one obsessed with this day.  Shane at Whispering Sweet Nothings is too and she's hosting a fun link-up!  Join in and confess your sins on this Halloween...

Ten on Tuesday - Costumes, Converses, and Cat Hugs

one. I bought a red bandanna at Wal-Mart Sunday and I'm going to throw my costume together this week!  Thank goodness for pinterest and bandanna tying tutorials.

two. WALKING DEAD SPOILERS BELOW!!
Surely this "glorified" cold is not what caused the zombie apocalypse.  If it is then EVERYONE is doomed and the show is nearly at its final conclusion.  I'm really curious to see how this virus plays out.  And so Carol's cool with murder now I guess?...

three.  Julianna Hough painted her face and went with a group of friends as characters from the show Orange is the New Black.  Apparently people are pissed that the white girl painted her face dark to portray a black character.  Can we stop being so freaking sensitive about everything?

four.  I told you I went to Wal-Mart Sunday?  I literally got out of bed, brushed my teeth, threw on some jeans and went in the ponytail and t-shirt I slept in.  I figured this was acceptable for Wally World.  For Publix no, but for Wal-Mart yes.

five.  The more I think about it the more I want these for Christmas:
white converse

six. Three weeks and one day until Gatlinburg.  We ate at Cracker Barrel last night and walking in and smelling the ham made me want to go.  But then again just about everything makes me want to go to Gatlinburg.

seven. Oh this is perfect.  Wouldn't you agree, Lauren?
I like to party and take naps

eight.  Chris went to a taping of WWE Smackdown last week and got on camera for a few seconds  impersonating a superstar's entrance with two friends.  Apparently the video has gotten some attention in the wrestling fan world.  The wrestler, Big E Langston, even tweeted about it.  Here's the youtube video that Chris is SO proud of.  Sweet baby Moses.  Kaylen, Allison and I made a video of our own.  Chris was not impressed.

nine. I think I could die happy if one of my cats actually hugged me.

ten. I'm off to read my new issue of InStyle with my girl, TSwift on the cover.  Can't wait to dive right into that...

Why My Weekend was Awesome - Pumpkin Vomit and Drunk Shaming

-This weekend Bama played the Tennessee Volunteers and my lovely sister scored me a ticket in the student section again!  I spent the night in Tuscaloosa with Kaylen at her apartment so we could just get up and go the next morning.  I don't know who was more worried about me staying over night, Mom or Chris.  I can't tell you how many times I heard something to the affect of:
Kaylen, don't lose your sister.
Kaylen, make sure your sister eats.
Kaylen, take care of your sister.
Kaylen, Alyssa might walk off randomly so watch her.
Kaylen, your older sister is incapable of surviving one day on a college campus so be the adult here.
Whatever.

Kickoff was at 2:30 and the weather all day was perfect.  Sunny, a little breezy and just right for long sleeves.  Like I said, we played Tennessee and they are pretty famous for their, um, unique team colors.  They call it Tennessee Orange.  I call it pumpkin vomit.  Sorry to me Vol friends.  I present to you exhibit A (this is the only exhibit I have but I just like saying "I present to you exhibit A"):
This actually happened.  A glitterized pimp cane.  And you can't see it but the front of that dress is bedazzled too.  Fabulous.

You've heard of fat shaming and you've heard of slut shaming.  I now present to you...drunk shaming:
This charming couple here showed up drunk (to, like I said, a 2:30 game) and nearly slept through the entire first half.  When they weren't slumped over they were trying (trying being the key word) to stand on the bleachers with the rest of the crowd and wave their shakers, quite unenthusiastically.  They each left a couple of times, to go vomit no doubt, but unfortunately they (and their drunk couple friends) always returned to annoy us and the people around us by waving their shakers in our faces and actually sitting during an awesome game, preventing us from standing on the bleachers like LITERALLY EVERY OTHER PERSON IN THE SECTION and seeing what was going on.  The girl next to me actually high fived me in the 4th quarter when the motley crew left, but not before the princess realized her cute little purse had been sitting in a puddle of spilled coke.  Karma.  It sucks.
The moral of this story is: If you're too drunk to function, kindly leave yourself at home.
[Faces have been purposely hidden to protect the obnoxious.]

Drunks aside, I had a blast.  A spend-the-night with my little sister, beautiful weather, and a winning game (we beat the Vols 45-10).  That's what I call a perfect day.

-Saturday night we met Chris' cousin and her friend at Sloss Fright Furnace.  Our first haunted house of the season!  We picked maybe the busiest night to go (the Saturday before Halloween) and were there forever.  But it was so much fun!  We did the Woods trail and the new Outbreak trail where you're chased by zombies through an obstacle course.  They made us sign waivers before we could participate, and now we know why!  It's no joke!  Ropes to swing from, pipes to crawl through and wires to step over that are nearly impossible to see.  It's a death trap for the clumsy!  But as usual the main walk-through was creepy and entertaining.  It doesn't get old for me.  We got home around 2 o'clock.  I don't think I've been out that late since I worked at American Eagle!

-Sunday was amazingly awesome because it was No-Shower-Sunday.  Yep.  You heard me.  Always a fun time in our house.  Pajamas, reading, TV watching, and napping with a little cleaning and laundry sprinkled in.  I love days like that.

Only 5 more days until another awesome weekend!
Was your weekend awesome?  Tell Alyssa all about it.  Leave me a link if you blogged about it!

My Baby Loves a Spooky Spooky Movie

I like Halloween.  Have I mentioned that?  Couldn't remember.
One of my favorite things to do in October (when I'm not carving a pumpkin or finding my way out of a corn maze) is to grab the kitties and a blanket and turn on a good Halloween movie.  There are a few that I MUST watch each year.  In no particular order, here are my favorite spooky movies.

"I'm like any modern woman trying to have it all: loving husband, a family... I only wish I had more time to seek out the dark forces and join them on their hellish crusade."
I've always liked this better than the first Addams Family!  I love Anjelica Huston as Morticia and you have to like crazy Joan Cusack.  I don't know which scene I like more: Gomez and Ticia's tavern tango or the Thanksgiving Day revenge of the nerds.  Can you believe this movie was made 20 years ago?

"You show me Regan's double, same face, same voice, everything. And I'd know it wasn't Regan. I'd know in my gut. And I'm telling you that 'thing' upstairs isn't my daughter."
I forced Chris to watch this last Halloween and he still hasn't recovered.  The sight of Regan is too much for him.  If you want to be seriously disturbed, watch this movie.  Alone.  In the dark.  What could possibly drive an atheist mother to beg a priest for help?  One badly placed crucifix.  This movie is more about a man struggling with his faith than a girl spewing pea soup.

-"Go to hell!"
-"Oh, I've been there, thank you.  I found it quite lovely!"
You can't have ANY Halloween movie list without Hocus Pocus.  I have this movie set to record on my DVR and Saturday night can't get here soon enough.  Everything that comes out of Bette Midler's bucktooth mouth is hilarious.  But why am I tell you this?  You probably know every word by heart.

"I threw a book at the bookshelf and WHOOSH she opened!"
It's a goofy cheeseball of a movie starring Barney Fife himself.  Don Knotts works at a small town newspaper and has the opportunity to write his own story...if he stays in the supposedly haunted Simmons mansion for a night.  Hilarity ensues.   Kaylen and I watch this with Daddy every year.  And we always laugh like it's the first time we've ever seen it!  Attaboy, Luther!

"It's a pity you didn't know when you started your game of murder that I was playing too."
I told you I watched this Saturday and I will in all likelihood watch it again before Halloween.  It stars Vincent Price whose voice was so awesome I could sit and listen to him read the dictionary.  It's mostly cheesy fun but there is one scene with a floating woman that might give you a jump.  Not to mention the music is super creepy.  This would be an awesome movie to have on in the background at a Halloween party.

"Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life!? I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in."
I read somewhere that Stephen King wasn't happy with Jack Nicholson as the main character because Jack Torrence is supposed to be an "everyman" who slips slowly into madness and let's face it, Nicholson looks like he's already halfway there.  I think Jacky boy MADE the movie.  It's a creepy classic with visuals that will pop back into your mind late at night.  And I don't care what Kaylen says, if we have twin girls I'm going to dress them as the Grady twins for Halloween.

"I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil."
Of course this is on my list.  I mean, it's called "Halloween".  Duh.  I've been watching this movie since I was a little kid.  Granted it's not as scary as when I was nine but there are scenes that still make me scream at the TV "freaking run faster!".

There you have it.  Did I leave anything out?  What's your favorite scary movie?  =)
This post means I get to link up with Sarah and Helene!

Ten on Tuesday - Vertigo, Roids, and PMS. I'm Two for Three.

If you're new around here (or if you're not) feel free to list ten things (anything at all) that are on your mind and link up!

one. So facebook quit working for a little while and there was panic in the streets.  Not really.

two. I woke up yesterday morning and knew it would be a bad day with my vertigo.  Miserable.  And then the medicine I have to deal with it just makes me want to fall asleep standing up.

three. Have you seen Beiber lately?  This kid has got to be on roids.  It's just unnatural looking.

four.  My sainted sister got me a ticket to the Alabama/Tennessee game!

five.  I had a lot of free time after all the festivities Saturday so I sat down and actually reorganized my pinterest boards.  What an exciting life I lead.

six.  This is the only reason I haven't turned on the heat yet in the house.  I'll automatically assume the place is going to burn down around us in our sleep.

seven.  I haven't watched LAST week's DWTS yet but I know I have to because Elizabeth Berkley is bringing back Jessie Spano!

eight. One month until Gatlinburg!!

nine. I'm back on the polyvore bandwagon.  Now if this outfit complete with that chanel bracelet could magically appear in my closet, that'd be great.

ten.  When men suggest that PMS and everything that goes with it, really isn't that bad.
It will be the death of me....or Chris.

Why My Weekend Was Awesome - A VERY Autumn Weekend

Why My Weekend Was Awesome with Two-Thirds Scarlett

[Warning: I'm going to be a walking, talking, typing cliche and tell you about all the awesome, incredibly autumn things I did this weekend.  You have been warned.]

-Saturday I met up with my long lost BFFs, Pam and Lauren and we planned on going to Tannehill Trade Days.  If you've been a reader for any length of time you've seen me talk about this.  We met up and it was raining.  Bummer, right?  Not really.  We went to Dunkin and caught up on everything we've been missing in each others lives over iced mocha lattes (yes, I had caffeine but Monday morning it's back to my trusty jug of water).   By the time we were done eating and gabbing the sun was coming out!  On we went as planned and it turned out to a perfectly fall day.  Sunny with a breeze and cool enough to wear a long sleeve shirt and be comfortable.  I always take cash out but I rarely spend more than ten bucks at these.  I walked away with a set of two gold birds to put on the wall in the hallway and an early Christmas gift for less than ten dollars.  Go me.

friends, Tannhehill
Look at beauty queen in the back with that hair.
After we shopped around Trade Days for a couple of hours we drove over the RV side of the park.  Before Halloween folks bring their RVs and trailers, park them weeks in advance and decorate the crap out of them.  We drove around for a good thirty minutes just taking in the sights.  And there were plenty of them.  We had the windows rolled down, arms (and cameras) hanging out, driving about 5 mph, oohing and aahing at all the cute and spooky stuff.  It was perfection.  I've missed these two in my daily life.

tannehill, halloween, spooky, decorations
Some of our favorites.
-When I got home I was alone so I made use of my new vacuum and just piddled around the house while watching the original House on Haunted Hill.  Gotta love it.  At one point I was in the bedroom and heard a crash from the kitchen.  I just thought "oh it's the cats" then noticed they were both in the room with me.  Spoiler: a broom fell.

-Sunday was our annual pumpkin carving with David, Tracie, Tristan, and Tyler!  This has always been and will always be one of my favorite things to do with them.  It was extra special this year with it being Ty's first.
Ty was so ashamed wearing that Florida hat he hid his face.  Poor baby.
I did something new again this year with the haunted house and thought it came out pretty good!  I free handed that bad boy.
It always makes me so happy hanging out with them.  And I must admit it melts my heart a little when Tristan gives Chris and I hugs when we leave.  Baby Fever.

TOLD you this was an extremely "fall" post.

So how was your weekend awesome??  Tel me about it or leave me a link if you blogged it!
