Ten on Tuesday - A New Tradition, Finally a Winner, and Clothes for Cooper

one. So hopefully you saw my last post and that we are indeed having a BOY and his name is Cooper Timothy! Long before he was a twinkle in his daddy's eye I posted a list of my favorite baby names. Not much has changed. Only difference is had he been a Lillian her middle would have been Belle.

two. Chris and I might have started a new Sunday tradition! The past couple of weeks we've gone grocery shopping together and fixed crock pot meals for supper. Last night (on the hottest day of the year so far for us) was taco soup.

three. As if this past weekend wasn't awesome enough, I came home Sunday to find that I was the winner of a $50 gift card from Lindsey to anywhere of my choice! Talk about perfect timing! This mama is going to Target!

four. Hahaha:

five. Speaking of which, I've been making a conscious effort to give the kitties extra loving, because you know, their lives are about to get a little strange.

six.  Hallelujah.  Only one month until Sons of Anarchy and then ALL of our of favorite shows come back a month later.  Plus the Emmys are soon!

seven. Basically my life at this point:

eight. I'm debating calling a chiropractor. That back pain I talked about is getting worse. Yesterday wasn't so bad but Saturday wasn't good and Sunday was very painful. Hurt to walk, move, lay down, sit up, you name it.

nine. How cool is this! Disney princesses in the styles of the years their movies came out:

ten. After work Chris, myself, my parents, and sister are all going to David and Tracie's.  Tracie was THRILLED when we found out it was a boy because after having two little boys herself she's eager to get rid of apparent MOUNTAINS of boy clothes and goodies.  Guess who the lucky recipients are:  The Whitts.  Loving it.

It Was Always Cooper

This weekend has been so overwhelming in such a good way.
Saturday evening with our immediate family and closest friends, we found out that we are having a BOY!!
We finally get our Cooper Timothy. The hypothetical baby we've been talking about for years is finally ours.

Kaylen, in three weeks, planned and executed a really awesome gender reveal party. She even hired a photographer to get pictures and I can't wait to share them with you when we get them! She thought of everything. There was an Old Wives Tales board. There were pink and blue ink pads so guests could make their thumbprint predictions. There were pink and blue clothes pins so they could wear their guesses. There were adorable pink and blue onesies strung across the picture window with a table full of, you guessed it, pink and blue treats and food.

I was nervous, excited, and WIRED all day long. I woke up at six and started deep cleaning the bedroom and bathroom at seven. Could NOT sit still. I was already anxious when the party started and FREAKED OUT when I saw our good family friend walk in with THE balloon. A black balloon filled with confetti that would tell us if we were having a son or daughter in January. And I was immensely relieved when Kaylen told me we were popping the balloon NOW before we ate. I didn't think I could handle it much longer. We all went outside and I held the balloon between two hands and Chris held the pin. I was about to cry or hyperventilate or both before he ever popped it. We were seconds away from a Cooper or a Lillian and I was cracking.

When Chris popped the balloon and blue confetti came EXPLODING out I screamed because I was SHOCKED! The closer we got to time, the more and more convinced I was it was girl. I was fully expecting pink confetti to go flying. My reaction in the video is one of genuine shock, awe, and JOY.  I would have been just as happy and excited if it was a girl; a Lillian to dress up and cover in pink.  But it's just natural that we should have a boy (this go round anyway).  If you can see, after the pop, Chris is asking me "what is it?!". He's colorblind and has a really hard time with pastel colors. He was the last to know! I will never forget the look on his face when I screamed IT'S A BOY!!! Just joy and tears.  It was one of the most exciting and happiest moments of my life thus far.   (I love how when the camera pans over you can see Mom and Kaylen hugging.) We were both walking on a cloud the rest of the night.
It was just always supposed to be Cooper.

Yesterday was a really good day. We got up, got an early lunch, and hit Buy Buy Baby to get some cocoa butter for me and to pick out Cooper's first onesie:

Clearly he will come into the world trendy.
We took our time walking around looking at everything, making a mental list or things we liked for later, and just kind of basking in it all.

I'm feeling so completely happy and blessed today. Blessed because we're getting Cooper and blessed because he's already so loved by people that love US.

So Chris is preparing to have a star quarterback/tennis pro/baseball great.
I'm preparing for him to be like me and not have an athletic or coordinated bone in his little body.

Gender Predictions

Tomorrow we can put name to our baby!  We're going to find out what it is with our nearest and dearest at a gender reveal party tomorrow night planned exclusively by Kaylen.  I'm so overwhelmed right now with emotion.  Sunday morning when we wake we'll know if we're going to have a son or daughter.  We'll know when January comes and we're holding a newborn wrapped in a blanket if it will be wearing a blue or pink baby beanie.  We'll know what color to start painting the nursery and we will FINALLY be able to start buying clothes!  Either way it will be a snappy dresser...

I know all the baby gender predictors are old wives tales and really don't mean anything but they've still been fun to look at and tally up!
Here's what the old wives, the Chinese and the Mayans have to say about Baby W:

gender prediction chart, boy or girl, pink or blue

Kaylen REALLY wanted me to pee in a cup of baking soda to see if it fizzed. Not happening, sister.
Chris said the Mayans were wrong about the apocalypse, why would they be right about this?  A fair point, I guess.
At work, a coworker put up signs by my desk for people to sign their name and take a guess.  Girls were ahead from the get go.  13-9 last I counted.

These next two days are going to be the longest days in history.
What's your guess?  To be fair, I won't tell you what I think it is or about the dreams I've been having!  But there's a 50/50 chance I'm wrong too!
So is Baby W a little fella or lady?

Baby W Update - 15 1/2 Weeks

We had our monthly appointment and an ultrasound yesterday!  We told the technician right off the bat we didn't want to know the gender yet and that we had an envelope for her.  She turned off the monitor in front of us and looked for herself.  She said the very first thing she saw was the baby's legs spread wide open so there was NO guessing!  Chris was a little disturbed by this and now hopes it's a boy.
After she took some pictures and wrote down the gender she turned the screen back on for us.  It was awesome.  I had a pepsi on the way to the hospital and it really worked!  The baby was moving all over the place.  It was so surreal.  It doesn't seem like there's enough room in there for all that!  It actually looked like a baby.  Last time we saw it in May it looked like a butter bean.
After the ultrasound the doctor met with us and listened to the heart.  Baby has a good, strong heart beat and everything seems to be going swimmingly (so to speak).

I haven't really done any "bumpdates" and I'm ashamed that I haven't taken more pictures!  To look at me there really hasn't been many changes and I'm still waiting to get that nice, little round belly.  But here is the first official update!

Weight Gain: Five pounds.  I'm shocked it's not 10-15 with as much as I've been eating.

Clothes: Shirts are good but pants are getting a little snug around the middle! I’ve been doing the rubber band trick on my jeans to make them a little more comfortable.

Symptoms: Headaches. Sometimes I wake up with them and when you wake up with a headache those suckers stick around ALL DAY. Tylenol Extra Strength is pretty much useless against them.
Back pain.  Like a shooting pain in the lower left back that takes my breath away sometimes.  The doc said it was most likely the sciatic nerve and it's just par for the course and to use icy hot or ask about a chiropractor if it gets too painful.

Cravings: I FINALLY started craving something, ANYTHING healthy! One day lima beans smacked me in the face and I started wanting cooked veggies. Lima beans, black eyed peas, squash, okra. What I HAVEN’T been wanting is meat. That’s not usually like me. It’s not that the thought of it makes me sick or anything. I just…don’t want it. And then of course there’s Taco Bell…

Sleep: Sleep is getting more difficult at night. I’m ALWAYS tired but I toss and turn all night and wake up several times. And not even because I have to hit the bathroom. Quite frustrating.  Sleep is my favorite and I know once baby gets here that pretty much goes out the window.

Stretch Marks: Nope. If anyone has any good suggestions for stuff to rub on your belly and be proactive, shoot!

Missing: Almost daily tuna fish sandwiches (now it’s every couple of weeks), and coffee whenever I want (Doc said I could have two servings of caffeine a day but I’m being super safe about caffeine).

Nursery: Currently it's kind of the catch all room.  There's a treadmill, an old book shelf I use as a drying rack, and a few boxes of random stuff we don't use.  Currently it's powder blue (the same color as the guest room) and has a nice white chair rail.  After this weekend we can start cleaning it out and getting ready to decorate and (maybe) paint!

Stay tuned for gender predictions!

Ten on Tuesday - Reading List, High School and a Big Day!

one. I didn’t get that lovely energy spike this weekend I got last Saturday. Just enough for a load of dishes and two loads of laundry. Not enough to say grace over.

two. But more importantly, we have a doctors appointment today with an ultrasound!!!! We will leave the hospital today with an envelope that will contain a piece of paper with either “boy” or “girl” written on it that WILL remain sealed until Saturday. It will remain sealed because it will be LOCKED in Dad’s glove compartment. I’m so excited to finally put a name to Baby W.

three. I’m back on the reading train! I went home Friday with two borrowed books. One Danielle Steel novel and Be Our Guest, a book about Disney’s excellent customer service. REALLY excited about that one. But first I must finish Allegiant! I can’t start one book without finishing what I was reading first. It’s like having an affair…

four. Went into my first maternity story. Mother of pearl, maternity crap is expensive. I think I'll be sticking to Target.

five. GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS HERE!! Yay!! Jofferey finally died! He was bleeding out of his face and turning grotesquely purple and Chris and I were fist pumping with joy. Now if Cerci would kick the bucket I would be happy.

six. Pastor Chris told us Sunday that in August we’re starting a sermon series that answers the question “Are We Living in the End Times?” Civilian planes are being shot out of the sky. This is only one of the many reasons I think the short answer is “yes”.

seven. This is like something out of a nightmare:

eight. Sleep has not been my friend lately. I've been tossing and turning and waking up several times. But last night I woke up at 1 and couldn't even entertain going back to sleep until 3.

nine. I was listening to an old NOW cd yesterday from senior year.  Naturally I start getting all sentimental about high school and thinking how you could NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS PAY ME ENOUGH TO GO BACK.  SCREW THAT NOISE.  SCREW HIGH SCHOOL.  SCREW BELLS.  SCREW 20 POUND BOOKS.
Story of my high school career:

ten. I hear the dryer going off.  Guess that means it's time to put on some pants and get this party started.

Things This Cheapskate Doesn't Mind Spending Money On

My family likes to joke that I’m cheap. [That taco seasoning is 97 cents?! Get the Publix brand. It’s 20 cents cheaper.] I call it frugal, but whatever. Now with baby on the way we’re really trying to save up.
But even still, as much as I like to save a buck, there are a few things that I never mind spending my money on.

Pepsi in glass bottles: Sure there’s water, tea, coke, milk and OJ in the fridge. But that doesn’t stop me from asking Chris to pick me up a 6-pack every time he goes to the local convenience store. I mean, it just tastes better in a glass bottle. Am I right or am I right?

Going to the Movies: SURE we can rent a movie on demand for $4 or hit up a Red Box for $2…but the red, reclining theater seats, previews and overpriced goodies are part of the fun! Unless I’m craving chicken salad sandwiches, in which case I’ll just smuggle those through in my purse. Seriously though, going to the movies has always been one of our favorite things to do.

Lunch Dates: Again, something I really enjoy doing with Chris on Saturdays. Not EVERY Saturday but a lot. We feel like the good people at McAllister’s are just expecting us to walk through the door at 11:00. Some of the best conversations Chris and I have had have been over a Four Cheese Griller and potato salad.

Fashion Magazines: Fashion magazines, tabloids, whatever you want to call them. Every single time I go through the check-out line I grab the newest Life and Style Weekly or People Style Watch without even thinking about it. I used to read Glamour, Cosmo and InStyle on the regular too but that got ridiculous.

Taco Bell: I mean, this goes without saying. All of our marriage we have been Taco Bell junkies. Now that I think about it, I think one of the first statuses I posted on MySpace after we got married was “Husband’s gone to get Taco Bell! Yummy!” or something along those lines. We might not live to see 90 because of our mild addiction. But whatever. We’ll both die with a gordita in hand.

What do you not mind spending money on?
Have a great weekend!

Ten on Tuesday - Energy, Fall Plans, and a Vendetta

one. I'm 14 weeks and got the most energy I've had in two months over the weekend! Saturday Chris was away so I had the house to myself all day. I did laundry, cleaned and decluttered the whole kitchen, picked up and swept in the living room and under the couches, decluttered the furniture in the bedroom, gave the cats their flea meds (I put this off for far too long because it's always an ordeal), and went through all the unopened mail. That's the most I've felt like doing since I got pregnant.

two. Hahaha:

three. Found out over the weekend we're going to get to see some very good friends from Lejeune next week! We're so excited!

four. Sunday at the grocery store while walking down the magazine aisle, if Chris hadn't asked me who was in her underwear on the cover of a magazine I wouldn't have noticed the Gone with the Wind Special 75th Anniversary magazine behind it!  Thank you Chris.  PS.  It was Kate Beckinsale.

five. That energy I had Saturday?  Gone Sunday.  And in another universe Monday.

six. I told you I was already ready for fall and this is why: the clothes.  I'm much better in fall/winter clothes than I am summer.

seven. Speaking of fall, Mom and Dad told us last night they want to plan a long weekend in Gatlinburg in October like we did last year.  Yay!  Something else to look forward to!

eight. Me this morning after getting TERRIBLE sleep and waking up with another headache:

nine. "I want them dead.  I want their children dead.  I want their whole family dead."  -Me telling Chris about the plan to rid the kitchen of german roaches.  Not in my house...

ten. A week and a half until we find out what baby is!

A Word from Gus: Suspicions

Gustifson Garfield here. You can call me Gus.

Have you ever had that feeling that you’re not being told something? That there’s an inside joke and you’re on the outside? That serious information is being withheld from you for maybe evil purposes?

That’s how it feels in the Whitt house lately. Something serious has happened (or is happening) and Dixie and I aren’t privy to the information. Dixie feels it too.

First thing I noticed? Mom started eating a lot. Not that she has ever been Miss I Can’t Eat Because I’m Scared To Gain a Pound but lately she’s been cleaning out the cupboards and eating everything she sees. Dixie is kind of nervous about it. She figures if Mom loses it and decides to eat one of us it will be her since I’m the favorite. She can have Dixie as long as she doesn’t eat my wet food.

Then the parentals have been talking about redoing OUR bathroom. They’re talking about a new, cleaner tub and sanitizing the entire room. Like our litter box isn’t sterile or something. Curiouser and curiouser.

Perhaps the strangest thing of all? Dad has been staring at Mom a lot. Like….a lot. Like he’s  waiting for her to do a trick. He’s always asking, “How do you feel? Do you need anything? You want something to eat?”. Either he has royally screwed up and is trying to make up for it or Mom is dying. If she’s dying I’d like to know about it. I need to discuss her will with her before she goes. I’d like to have her sweatpants and the love seat.

But yes. Something is big is brewing. And I have a feeling it’s something terrible.

Why My Vacation Was Awesome

Chris and I left out as quick as we could last Tuesday after work. We hit a gas station and McDonalds and 4 and a half hours later at 11:30 we rolled up to the condo. The smell of the lobby was most welcome. Salt and chlorine. My family has stayed at this particular condo for at least 20 years now and it always brings back awesome memories. This trip will go down as one of the most perfect beach trips in recent memory.

-Waking up to the sound of waves will put you in a good mood regardless but I don’t ever remember the water being this clear and this clean. No seaweed, no jellyfish, and luckily the booming shark population went elsewhere for the holiday. You could see straight to the bottom as far as you could touch. I know this because I, Alyssa, who is afraid of the ocean, got in up to my shoulders of my own free will. I felt like a mermaid. Just give me a coconut bra and call me Ariel. It was so peaceful (except for the little prick kid who screamed something about a shark every once in a while, which is SO not funny). Plus there were dolphins! Every morning! And they were beautiful to watch.

-We didn’t see rain the ENTIRE TIME we were there. A far cry from last year’s beach trip where it rained for two days straight and never really got pretty. If I had prayed for weather, this is exactly the weather I would have prayed for. No pop-up showers or storms, no ugly maybe it will rain, maybe it won’t weather. Just gorgeousness. HOT gorgeousness. But gorgeousness none the less. I actually did ok in the heat! I was REALLY worried about it. I only got overheated and thought I was going to die once. Not bad for me.

-I got to wear my new swimsuit and it’s basically the only time I looked maybe pregnant and not just like I’m getting chunky. The first day I slathered on SPF 30 because, you know, pale. It was perfect. I got a tad bit of color and NO burning. Success. The next two days I got a little brave and mixed the 30 with 15. Still good results. Saturday I got cocky. Full on SPF 15. FAIL. I burned some on the tops of my thighs, the sides of my shins, and the inside of my forearms. Of COURSE it was uneven. At least it was the last day and it was nowhere near as bad as two years ago when I couldn’t even walk to the kitchen to get aloe.

-The food. Oh my stars. I get just as excited about the food at the beach as I do lounging by the pool all day. We ate at Lulu’s the first night. Always a fun time. I had the crab toast appetizer. The next night was my favorite, The Original Oyster House. I had the amazing salad bar and shrimp florentine. (Don’t fret, pregnancy police. This was the last seafood I had and the crab on the crab toast the night before was WELL under 6 ounces.)

-The 4th was probably my favorite day. We pooled it up until lunch time. Mom had arranged for us to have BBQ with all the fixings. Yum. An extra plus? It was Dead, White, and Blue weekend on AMC!! Woo hoo! Old TWD episodes while we ate and rested! That night we had leftover BBQ and got dressed in our patriotic colors for fireworks on the beach. We drove a few miles to where they were being set off from a barge. Apparently last year they set them off the beach itself and embers flew back into the condos. Not good. It as the first time I’d ever watched fireworks on the beach and it was somewhat magical. Fireworks make me happy anyway but it added a little something extra to be sitting next to Chris on a blanket on the beach watching them. The NEXT night we got an even better show. Turns out the condo two down from us was having their own party complete with fireworks. We sat on the balcony and got the most explosive show I’ve ever seen. We counted over 50 boat parked in front of the beach to watch. It reminded me of the lantern scene from Tangled!

-Family time. I’m so thankful I got to be off work at a somewhat chaotic time to go on vacation with my nearest and dearest. You know I love my family because sometimes I don’t shut up about them. We love being together and beach trips when I was a kid are something I love to look back on. I can’t for Baby W to make these same memories with these special people.
I told you there would be photos in coordinating colors.

Ten on Tuesday - Back to Reality, Pancakes, and Free Tacos

one. Hello, all! The family and I had a WONDERFUL vacation. It was the kind that’s so perfect it’s REALLY hard to come back from. More on vacay later.

two. Did anyone catch the special Talking Dead episode Sunday night with the sneak peek of season 5??? UGH I’m so ready for October now. I told Chris it’s nice how the timing worked out. We’ll have one more TV season of our favorite shows before baby gets here.

three. I came back from vacation with lots of my fave blogs to catch up on! Made me happy!

four. I had a particular craving last week. I tell you this because I haven’t had many particular cravings. It’s been more EAT ALL THE FOOD!! But last Tuesday I was sitting at my desk and pancakes hit me. Right in the face. Ihop original pancakes. I would have traded one of my cats for some at that very moment. I wanted them so bad I started pinning pictures of pancakes.

five. A little GOT humor that I finally understand:

six. Now that I’ve had my vacation I’m kinda like….fall can hurry up and get here.

seven. Something else good about vacation? I got to read more of Allegiant! I couldn't put it down in the mornings. It's so neat to see them exposed to the world before the fall. Like they don't know what air travel or coke is.

eight. I pulled this on Chris! I laughed for ten minutes. He didn’t see the humor in it…

nine. Last night we had old faithful (Taco Bell) for supper and they gave me two extra tacos and an extra cheesy gordita crunch at the drive thru and I kept my mouth shut....and I still feel conflicted about it this morning.

ten. My sweet husband said Sunday night after we got settled in on the couch with pizza "See? I like the beach but this is what I love. In MY house, on MY couch, with MY family." Swoon. Or barf. Whichever it makes you feel like doing.

Ten on Tuesday - Red Wedding, Beach, and 'Merica

one. Beach tonight after work. I'm so excited I haven't shut up about it in weeks not excited at all.

two. Chris and I finished season three of Game of Thrones Saturday night. Two words: Red. Wedding.  Holy mother of pearl.  Just...
After Chris sat back down and finished screaming obscenities, he said he didn't want to live in this world anymore.

three. This weekend, for the second time in a week I dreamed about home invasion only to wake up and realize we forgot to set the alarm the night before.

four. I had to sit at my desk yesterday with my pants unbuttoned.  It might be time to retire those jeans until after baby gets here.

five. So last week a Mexican helicopter came across our borders and FIRED TWICE ON OUR BORDER PATROL.  And what's been done about it?  ....Nothing.  Because they basically said "Oops, our bad".  This blows my mind.  But then again it doesn't since we've got chicken crap in the White House.

six. Genius.

seven. I'm somewhat proud of myself.  I've washed all the clothes, painted my toe-nails, packed everything last night and this morning, and STILL got Ten on Tuesday.  [Pats self on back.]

eight. The cats know we're leaving...and they're pissed.

nine. Pregnancy has given me just enough irritability that I get smart back with people when they deserve it.

ten. If I don't "talk" to you before the holiday weekend, have a safe, sun filled, red, white, and blue, AWESOME 4th of July! Happy Independence Day!!
