Spooky Movies Revisited

Howdy, friends. We leave for Gatlinburg TONIGHT. I'm bummed I'll miss Halloween at work but...Gatlinburg. Still I couldn't let my second favorite holiday go ignored. So I'm reblogging my favorite Halloween post from last year on my favorite subject: movies.

I like Halloween.  Have I mentioned that?  Couldn't remember.
One of my favorite things to do in October (when I'm not carving a pumpkin or finding my way out of a corn maze) is to grab the kitties and a blanket and turn on a good Halloween movie.  There are a few that I MUST watch each year.  In no particular order, here are my favorite spooky movies.

"I'm like any modern woman trying to have it all: loving husband, a family... I only wish I had more time to seek out the dark forces and join them on their hellish crusade."
I've always liked this better than the first Addams Family!  I love Anjelica Huston as Morticia and you have to like crazy Joan Cusack.  I don't know which scene I like more: Gomez and Ticia's tavern tango or the Thanksgiving Day revenge of the nerds.  Can you believe this movie was made 20 years ago?
"You show me Regan's double, same face, same voice, everything. And I'd know it wasn't Regan. I'd know in my gut. And I'm telling you that 'thing' upstairs isn't my daughter."
I forced Chris to watch this last Halloween and he still hasn't recovered.  The sight of Regan is too much for him.  If you want to be seriously disturbed, watch this movie.  Alone.  In the dark.  What could possibly drive an atheist mother to beg a priest for help?  One badly placed crucifix.  This movie is more about a man struggling with his faith than a girl spewing pea soup.
-"Go to hell!"
-"Oh, I've been there, thank you.  I found it quite lovely!"
You can't have ANY Halloween movie list without Hocus Pocus.  I have this movie set to record on my DVR and Saturday night can't get here soon enough.  Everything that comes out of Bette Midler's bucktooth mouth is hilarious.  But why am I tell you this?  You probably know every word by heart.

"I threw a book at the bookshelf and WHOOSH she opened!"
It's a goofy cheeseball of a movie starring Barney Fife himself.  Don Knotts works at a small town newspaper and has the opportunity to write his own story...if he stays in the supposedly haunted Simmons mansion for a night.  Hilarity ensues.   Kaylen and I watch this with Daddy every year.  And we always laugh like it's the first time we've ever seen it!  Attaboy, Luther!

"It's a pity you didn't know when you started your game of murder that I was playing too."
I told you I watched this Saturday and I will in all likelihood watch it again before Halloween.  It stars Vincent Price whose voice was so awesome I could sit and listen to him read the dictionary.  It's mostly cheesy fun but there is one scene with a floating woman that might give you a jump.  Not to mention the music is super creepy.  This would be an awesome movie to have on in the background at a Halloween party.
"Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life!? I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in."
I read somewhere that Stephen King wasn't happy with Jack Nicholson as the main character because Jack Torrence is supposed to be an "everyman" who slips slowly into madness and let's face it, Nicholson looks like he's already halfway there.  I think Jacky boy MADE the movie.  It's a creepy classic with visuals that will pop back into your mind late at night.  And I don't care what Kaylen says, if we have twin girls I'm going to dress them as the Grady twins for Halloween.
"I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil."
Of course this is on my list.  I mean, it's called "Halloween".  Duh.  I've been watching this movie since I was a little kid.  Granted it's not as scary as when I was nine but there are scenes that still make me scream at the TV "freaking run faster!".
There you have it.  Did I leave anything out?  What's your favorite scary movie?  =)
Have a wonderfully spooky, SAFE Halloween tomorrow!

Going to Gatlinburg and Getting Our Wish

Tomorrow after work we are headed to Gatlinburg (aka. my favorite place in the world)! Every time we visit I think, “…I could live here.” We’re all packed (mostly), the weather is shaping up to give us snow, and I’m so looking forward to a couple of days with the family strolling along the parkway and EATING ALL THE THINGS!

On my to-do list is:
-buy CT a Gatlinburg onesie
-hit up the magnet store for some to add to my cabinet at work
-get a free fudge sample EVERY SINGLE TIME I PASS A FUDGE SHOP
-take our traditional chair lift photo
-visit the Celtic shop
-eat some divinity
-walk along River Road

Last year when we went in November, we stopped at a huge outdoor store on our way out. The place reminded me of a Bass Pro Shop with multiple levels and waterfalls and streams and what not. I love to toss pennies into fountains and make wishes. On the second floor I asked Chris for change to toss into the pool below. He got out a nickel (or maybe even a dime, I can’t recall) and said, “Let’s make a wish together. I won’t say it and you won’t say it but we’ll drop it together.” We held the coin together over the railing, paused long enough to close our eyes and make our wish, and dropped it.
Six months later we got our wish! And a year later our wish will be accompanying us back to Gatlinburg. He has to. He’s kind of attached.

Later, friends!

Ten on Tuesday - Pumpkins, TWD, and Push Presents

one. There are going to be FOUR posts from this blog this week. I know, I can't believe it either.

two. Saturday Mom, Kaylen, I spent FOUR HOURS walking around the mall looking for outfits for the baby tea. I walked away without a dress but my ever generous mother spoiled me at Destination Maternity with two tops, a pair of jeans, and some “unmentionables”. Kaylen and I also had too much fun in the dressing room with the “bump pillow”.

three. Haha. The end cracked me up.

four. TWD SPOILERS HERE! I'm so glad the cannibals are dead! I was kind of hoping they'd turn from eating Bob after he'd been scratched though. #BoBBQ #RIPBob And who in the hades is in the woods with Daryl? Carol?? BETH??? I can hardly contain myself.

five. Looks like I'm NOT going to reach my goal of being completely done Christmas shopping this month. Oh well. Only three more gifts to go! Usually I haven't even started yet!

six. Baby check up today.  Appointments are every TWO weeks now, which means the end is near.  That sounded more ominous than I meant for it to.

seven. Sunday afternoon we got together for our yearly pumpkin tradition! We’ve been doing this with David and Tracie for 14 years and it’s neat to look back on pictures and see our growing families! And it’s crazy to think next year there will be an addition to our party!  T on Chris's shoulders melts my heart a little bit.

eight. Last night on our bed I watched Dixie kill AND CONSUME a moth.  Quite disturbing.

nine. Have you ever heard of a "push present"? I had to google it. Apparently it's a new trend where the new father buys the new mother a gift to say "thanks for PUSHING out my kid". This could go well for me...

ten. And now some uber cute happiness for your Tuesday:

A Letter To My 16 Year Old Self

Dear 16 Year Old Alyssa,

I’m your future, 26 year old, married, pregnant self. Yep. Ten years from now you’ll be married to that guy you’re crazy about, you’ll own a home you both worked hard for and congrats! You’ll be pregnant with your first baby! Oh and you’ll finally have those cats you always wanted. Life gets pretty peachy for you.

Of course you WILL have the “peaks and valleys” that everyone talks about. The highs and lows. Your highs are VERY high. Some of the most exciting, memorable moments of your life are coming up. You’ll sob tears of joy and walk on many a cloud. I’m playing a slideshow in my mind of some of your best moments (and I’ll keep them to myself because I don’t want to ruin it for you).

…But don’t start celebrating just yet. You’re a lot stronger than you think are. You’ll find this out when you don’t have a choice, girlfriend. Bottle up any of that leftover strength because your lows get pretty low. They’ll get so low they’ll nearly incapacitate you and you’ll feel pain in ways you never imagined. I won’t lie to you. For a while it gets really rough and you’ll think there’s no end to this sad little parade.

But take faith and have hope because tomorrow will be kinder! It gets better. It gets sooo much better. You’ll be happy to the point of disbelief and you’ll pray that God never takes this life from you. You are so loved and you’ll love so deeply it frightens you. You won’t just be happy. You’ll be full of joy.

Like I said, I don’t want to spoil anything for you, so I’ll just leave you with a few tidbits of knowledge:
Learn to be observant and read between the lines when it comes to people you know. Not everything is black and white.
Kaylen is annoying now, but she gets a lot cooler.
Sparkly, red, strapless dresses are not to be worn to church.
Ask Maw lots and lots of question. You’ll want to know every little thing about her later.
Stop being so jealous. The guy really digs you because he’s still around ten years from now even though sometimes you don’t deserve it.
Stop and savor as many moments as you can. Time gets faster every year you get older.

Be good.

26 Year Old Alyssa

Dear Cooper

Dear Cooper,

I can’t wait to meet you. We’re getting your nursery ready for you and your very indecisive mother hopes you like the navy color and find it calming. =)

The biggest thrill for me is seeing you move and feeling how strong you are. Whenever I get worried because I haven’t felt you move for a little while, you’re quick to kick me as if to say, “Relax, we’re still good.” You’ve pretty much been good this entire pregnancy. You never made me sick, which I am SO appreciative of. You haven’t given me much heart burn (so you might be a baldy). You did NOT give me gestational diabetes, so that’s good! I sincerely hope this good behavior carries over after you’ve made your entrance into the world.

Your daddy is so excited for you. He compared waiting for your arrival to waiting for football season. You’ll learn that that’s a big deal. I think we have extremely different pictures in our heads of what you’ll be like. Your dad sees you as his little star quarterback or shortstop, destined for ESPN greatness and of course with his wild sense of humor and extreme extraversion. I see you as my happy, mild mannered little book worm who likes to use your imagination and who might one day open a five star restaurant and name your favorite dish after me. =)

You’re the first grandbaby and first great-grandbaby on your grandmother’s side so you are ruined before you even get here. Your Aunt K plans to steal you from daycare every Friday afternoon, your granddaddy is planning your first trip to Bryant-Denny (much to your daddy’s dismay) and your grandmother already has your first beach vacation in the works. You’re not even here yet and already you are so loved.

We've dreamed about you for so long and can't believe you'll be here in a few short weeks.  Keep growing for a little while longer and we’ll be getting ready for you! I can’t wait to be your Mama.

Ten on Tuesday - Pumpkins, Kitty Cuddles, and Dirty Hair

one. We had such a good Sunday! I stayed in bed until almost 11 (weird for me), we had lunch with cousins from Florida we never get to see, went to Michael's and bought some fall decor, finally registered for a stroller, and then ordered pizza for dinner and watched The Walking Dead. Good day in my book.

two. This is NOT what I bought at Michael's but I added this guy to my Halloween mantle! I love anything that lights up.

three. Got some more Christmas shopping done Saturday!

four. I finished reading The Shining. If you've seen the movie forget everything you saw before you read the book. Different in so many BIG ways. Next on the Stephen King list? Carrie.

five. This happened Saturday. One of the cats finally cuddled up to my belly! She even got kicked around a little!  And of course please excuse all the cat hair on the black shirt.  I should have known better...

six. Sometimes there's nothing better than a glass of Nesquik chocolate milk.

seven. I dreamed Sunday night about being chased by someone wearing a smile mask like the clown in American Horror Story.

eight. Heh.

nine. SOA: I really feel like Juice might die tonight.  No way Jax forgives him.  Jax might play nice and then kill him at the end of the episode or something.  The only way I will be at peace with Juice's death is if he rats on Gemma first and she gets what's coming to her.

ten. I only used a little dry shampoo in my unruly, wavy hair yesterday and pinned it halfway back with a clip just because I didn't feel like washing and drying it. I got more compliments on my dirty hair than my freshly washed hair. #FTW!

Baby W Update - 28 Weeks

Lots of changes this past month!  And oh yea, third trimester begins TODAY!  Holy cow.
Little man is growing and growing. As is my belly button which freaks me out.
I’m getting to the uncomfortable stage. I feel tight all the time now (I mean, duh) but at night I feel like if I sneeze I’ll just crack open like an egg. I've also been told I've developed a little bit of a waddle.
I had to switch my belly ring for a smaller one.  Just too dang uncomfortable.  I'm hoping I won't have to take it completely out because if it closes up it's NOT getting pierced again.

We had our monthly appointment Tuesday and got to see him again. I told the nurse it sometimes feels like he's in there stretching as far as he can because I feel him all over at once, and that's because he's just taking up that much room! He's about 15 inches now.

In other news, we toured four different daycares last week. Wow. That was an experience. Very surreal and slightly overwhelming. At the first place we visited, the very first thing we encountered was a little girl crying because her mother was leaving her. Chris and I cried right along with her. Can't handle it. Then in the nursery, there were babies everywhere (duh) and one spat up, and one was rolling around in his crib, and one was staring at Chris and I could see the panic rising in him. But we got through it! We got through four! We have two at the top of our list and at least one more to visit.

Weight Gain: Up 17 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight. Pretty much on target.

Clothes: I bought two pairs of maternity pants and LOVE them. So much more comfortable than the belly band and regular jeans at this point, but I still make them work when I feel like it too. I bought a couple of shirts and since the weather is changing I can soon wear Tracie’s hand-me-down maternity sweaters. So I have a nice little stock! I didn’t think it would be this fun shopping for maternity wear but it is!

Symptoms: Lots of pressure. When I stand up sometimes I think “I have got to pee right this second”. Sometimes it’s just uncomfortable to walk period. Bending over is getting harder as is moving from a lying to a sitting position. At the end of the day I feel so big and tight I don’t want to move. I’m basically a slug after 6:30. Also I think I've finally reached the point where laying on my back is a no-go. I don't sleep on my back but I lounge in that position a lot. Doc said my body would tell me when it's time stop and lately I've felt pressure in my chest when I lie that way so I think my body is telling me "hey, stuff a pillow under there and get some extra support, girl".

Movement: Lots of it and getting harder! I still love it though. The only time I didn’t care for it was last week at work, I got a kick so hard and so LOW I thought for a second I wet myself. The horror. Saturday morning he was partying a little too hard and Chris accidentally SAW him move. Freak out ensued. That was probably the most uncomfortable I've been with his movements. Chris was starting to worry: "You look like you're in pain. Should I call your mom? Should we call the doctor??" Of course now if I DIDN'T get the crap kicked out of me I'd worry.

Cravings: Still nothing weird. But last week I woke up one morning and seriously thought I was going to have to go to Publix before work and get a bottle of sparkling grape juice to drink. Well, I guess that's pretty weird. Mostly though I want chocolate and lots of it. Brownies, chocolate chip cookies, candy bars, chocolate milk, whatever...

Sleep: Still sucks. Tossing and turning all night every night.

Stretch Marks: I thought Friday night my luck had run out and I had the beginning of one but alas it was gone the next morning. So again, so far so good with the body butter. [knock on wood knock on wood] I’m checking myself more carefully for them now. As tight as I feel sometimes I expect to any day now lift my shirt and see that I’m covered in them.

Missing: Ahi tuna and steak so rare it’s still trying to sell me Chick-Fil-A.

Nursery: We now have a painted nursery! The navy shade we chose is beautiful with the room's white chair rail and it’s even prettier in person than in pictures. The crib and the dresser we ordered arrived and I can't WAIT to put them together and see the room start to look like an actual nursery. I bought him his first piece of wall decor too. This print from Etsy. Love it. It’s slowly coming together!

Chris made this and posted it to facebook and THIS is why he's the frosting to my cupcake:

Fall Fashion – My New Favorite Outfit

Hey yall!
You’re getting something today that NEVER happens over here at Two-Thirds Scarlett: An outfit post! Call it OOTD or What I Wore or whatever but today I’m linking up with Helene and Taylor for Blog Every Day in October (#Blogtober14).

Plaid Shirt: Forever 21 (similar)
Maternity Skinnies: Old Navy
Basic Tank: Target
Leopard Flats: Target (similar)
Clock Necklace: Earthbound Trading Company (similar)

I’ve been digging plaid lately and searched and searched for the perfect classic plaid shirt. I ordered one from Forever 21 but when it arrived I was sorely disappointed to find that it swallowed me whole, pregnant belly and all. Wah. So I went in-store to switch it for another size but ended up finding one that I liked even more. And it’s my perfect plaid. Comfy material and classic colors. I paired it with a white tank, my new maternity skinnies, my absolute favorite flats and the clock necklace my parents got me for Christmas.

Ta da! My new favorite, definitely fall outfit!

PS.  Major props to all the full-time fashion bloggers who let someone take awkward pictures of them outside on the regular.

Ten on Tuesday - TWD, A Fall Craft, and A Mad Cat

one. Did anyone watch The Walking Dead premiere?! Best. Premiere. Ever. THEN did you watch Talking Dead afterward? There was a question for the creator tweeted in from CooperW. Our baby is so smart he’s tweeting in utero…

two. Speaking of which, today is our monthly appointment and the first part of the glucose test so we have to be at the hospital earlier than usual.  I was worried this morning would be awful because we were supposed to get severe weather in the middle of the night.  Luckily it weakened enough that I could actually attempt sleep through it.

three. I literally cannot even:

four. Amanda Bynes lost it again. Anyone surprised?  Her story is such a sad one.

five. I realized yesterday I was wearing an exact replica of an outfit I wore when I was 16. Hot pink top, jeans, and my trusty black and pink Vans. Except the top and jeans weren't maternity when I was 16...

six. ALL of our shows we waited so patiently for are in full swing now! American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, and Ghost Hunters rejoined our lineup this past week!

seven. I’m not much of a crafter but I really want to do this!
eight. I got to see what the invitation to my baby tea will look like yesterday! Speaking of which, for my non-southern friends, do yall know what a "tea" is as opposed to a "shower"?

nine. I keep forgetting we're going to Gatlinburg in less than three weeks! Bring on the changing leaves, crisp air, and free fudge samples!!!

ten. My face when Chris asks me to get off the couch for any reason after 6:30:

Letters To Me

Dear Alyssa,
This isn't going to work out much longer. Not much longer at all...
-Your pre-maternity clothes

I know you were upset because I was $17 more expensive but doesn't it mean anything to you that I'm still so shiny? I haven't even chipped yet! Isn't that worth the extra $17 you hadn't planned on spending? Alyssa? Are you there?
-Your gel polish

You're never going to find my jingle collar.  Accept it and move on.  This time I've strategically "lost" it in a place where you never look.   The drawer with all the cooking utensils.
Crap.  Oh well.  See you tonight.

You've hung two different things in two months! I'm so proud of you! The hook rack between the bedroom closets for your necklaces really is a nice touch.  Now maybe a nice accent piece for the dining room...
-Your walls

Calm down. It's all going to be ok. Just breathe.

Ten on Tuesday - Panic Mode, Ebola, and a Mouthy Cat

one. I had a moment of panic Sunday night while choosing a date for a baby tea when I realized we have three months until CT arrives…and thus far we’ve only got his room painted. AHH!! So much to do!!

two. One thing I have NOT procrastinated about is Christmas shopping! Almost finished! My goal is to have it completed before this month is out.

three.  Hm.  Bama haters suddenly got mouthy Saturday night.

four. Yall, I can’t even lie. I felt so cute yesterday in my new maternity jeans and flannel shirt I might have to do an OOTD or Where I Got It post here soon. And that NEVER happens.

five. So the dad from 7th Heaven is a child molester???  Whaaat??

six. I love this so much.  'Merica.

seven. Is anyone else freaked out by this whole ebola thing?  If the guy that brought it over here from Liberia lives (which is a big if from what I read) he should absolutely face charges for lying on his paperwork to be cleared to fly back.  PS.  Have you ever seen the movie Contagion?  It only takes one person!

eight. You wanna treat?

nine. SOA anyone??  Wow. We had to pick our jaws up off the floor after last week’s ending. My theory is this: Juice will accept his fate in meeting Mr. Mayhem [sad face] and will first seek out Jax to tell him the truth about Tara. That will be how he redeems himself. I’m so excited about tonight’s episode!

ten. And how’s this for exciting and surreal: we are touring possible daycares this morning. Yea. Daycares. For the baby we’re going to have. Holy cow.
